Anthony DeQuattro '67
Men’s Basketball, Baseball, 1967 Men's Basketball Team
Hall of Fame Class of 2004
To say Anthony DeQuattro maximized his time as a student-athlete at Bryant College, might not be enough to properly recognize a man considered one of the finest athletes to ever attend Bryant. Competing in an era where two-sport athletes were common, DeQuattro was a standalone all-star in both basketball and baseball.
As a baseball captain, DeQuattro hit over .400 for Bryant, but perhaps it was in the gym where DeQuattro established himself as not only a great teammate, but a great leader. With an all-star basketball line-up consisting of names like Tom Smile and Ted Alsup, DeQuattro was the captain of the 1966-67 team that posted a school-record 22 wins and went undefeated in the regular season.
As the starting point guard, DeQuattro helped lead Bryant to a berth in the N.A.I.A. national tournament and top-20 national ranking. A native of Providence and graduate of La Salle Academy, DeQuattro had several memorable moments on the basketball court, including a 34-point performance with a basket in the closing minute to help force overtime in Bryant’s win over Bentley College.
In addition to his busy schedule, DeQuattro also found a little extra time to help lead his fraternity football team to a school championship in 1966 as well as serving as class president, editor of the school newspaper, editor of the yearbook, member of the student senate and greek council, and founder and president of the Bryant Letterman’s Club.
