Whiting helps notch two school records on Saturday at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I.- Chloe Whiting would be a part of two school records for the Bryant Track and Field team on Saturday at the URI Invitational. Whiting would first take home a solo record after winning the women's 3,000m with a time of 9:44.75. She would pass her friend and fellow teammate Jasmine Trott's mark of 9:48.76 which she set at the same meet a year prior.

Whiting would also help the Black and Gold break their indoor record in the women's 4x800m  relay. Whiting would be joined by Kelley MacElhiney Emma Grzybinski and Shelby DeGrenier in the event and the four would finish with a time of 9:22.00 crushing the previous time by over 12 seconds (9:34.05: Kairys,Crowley,Grzybinski,Ondy-2023). The Bulldogs would also win the event; beating out the next closest team by over five seconds.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables:
  • Iyana Braswell and Dasani Stewart would both finish inside the top five in the women's long jump. Braswell would place third with a best jump of 5.52m and Stewart would finish 4th with her best mark being 5.31m. Braswell is now second all-time in the long jump.
  • Stewart would also win the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.26m.
  • Braswell would place third in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.78m.
  • Freshman Ian Thomas would have an outstanding performance in the men's long jump, with a best mark of 6.81m. Thomas is already second all-time in long jump for the Bulldogs; trailing only Hafiz Greigre (2007) who holds the record in the event with a distance of 6.94m).
  • Panayiota Anastos placed 7th in the women's shot put with a best throw of 12.09m.
  • Maggie Fodera finished 8th in the women's high jump after clear 1.55m.
  • Mike Marshall Jr. would tie for fifth place in the men's high jump after he cleared 1.90m.
  • Ashley Brule and Allyson Humphries each finished in the top ten for the women's pole vault. Brule placed second after clearing 3.65m and Humphries finished 8th after clearing 3.50m.
  • Kalen Knott would place 4th in the men's pole vault after he cleared a height of 4.45m.
  • Toby Ruffo finished 3rd in the 400m with a time of 51.20
  • Lauren Haddad and Savannah Pineda finished inside the top ten in the women's 500m. Haddad placed 5th after running 1:19.55. Pineda was 7th and ran 1:20.63.
  • Shelby DeGrenier finished 2nd in the women's 800m with a time of 2:16.51
  • Justin Shiffrin would win the men's 3,000m with a time of 8:42.78

Bryant will head back to The TRACK at New Balance in Boston to compete in the RIverhawk Invite which will be taking place from January 24-25.
