BRYANT EARNS A 7TH INNING COMEBACK IN GAME 1 BEFORE ROUTING BOBCATS IN GAME 2, 8-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Riding a four-game win streak, the Bryant University softball team picked up two huge wins over Quinnipiac on Saturday, 9-8 in Game 1 and 8-0 in Game 2, stretching the streak to six games.

Game 1

After finding themselves down 6-0 after just one inning, the Bulldogs orchestrated an epic comeback to top the Bobcats, 9-8, in Game 1 Saturday afternoon.

Quinnipiac pushed six runs across in the top of the first as the cross-state rivals looked sharp early on, but the persistent Bulldogs did not give up scoring nine runs, including three in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn their fifth-straight win.

The Bulldogs chipped away to the six-run deficeit in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs, first on an Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) single and then on an Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) double to left center, cutting the lead to just four after one.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bryant added two more thanks to a Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) solo shot to leadoff the inning (Guy tied the Bryant softball program record for homeruns in a season with her 10th homerun this year). Three batters later, sophomore Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) singled to right field, scoring junior catcher Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.), cutting the lead to just two runs.

In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats added another run, only to be answered by two more Bulldog scores in the bottom of the sixth, as the score stood 7-6 Quinnipiac heading into the seventh inning.

In the seventh, Quinnipiac added a run in the top of the inning to push the lead to two runs. IN the bottom of the seventh, the some clutch at bats by senior Talia Zizza (Reading, Mass.) and classmate Kate Murray (Fitchburg, Mass.) got things started as Corder forced a bases loaded walk, scoring Alicia Mosesso (Abington, Mass.). One batter later, Mable laced a walkoff double to left center, scoring a pair and lifting Bryant to the 9-8 victory.

Game 2

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was dominated by Bryant's senior pitcher Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.), who allowed just one hit in five innings of work as the Bulldogs earned an 8-0 victory to pick-up its seventh-straight win.

Riding the momentum from the huge Game 1 comeback, the Bulldogs put up a quick two runs in the bottom of the first off a Madsen double to left center and then a Velasquez single to put Bryant up 2-0 after one.

Bryant added two more runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a Madsen RBI triple as the Black and Gold cruised to an 8-0 victory in five innings.

But the real story of Game 2 was Jacob who allowed just one hit and two total baserunners in five innings of stellar work, picking up a six strikeouts in the process.

The Bulldogs will welcome Robert Morris on Sunday for a Senior Day doubleheader in the Bulldogs' home finale. Game 1 is set to start at 12 p.m.
