THE GAME: The Bryant University football team hits the road this weekend for a Northeast-10 Conference game at C.W. Post this Saturday (12 p.m. kickoff). Both teams are 3-1 heading into the contest while C.W. Post is undefeated at 3-0 in the Northeast-10. Bentley is the only other team undefeated in conference play this season at 4-0. Bryant is coming off a 20-19 win on Homecoming on Saturday while C.W. Post put 73 points on the board in a 73-17 win over Saint Anselm last weekend. The Pioneers, the preseason favorite to win the Northeast-10 in 2005, enters the game averaging 56.5 points per game after four contests.

BULLDOG UPDATE: Bryant is averaging 179.5 yards rushing per game and 211.8 yards passing this season and enjoying its best start since the 2000 season when Bryant went 3-1 in just the second year as a varsity program. Lorenzo Perry has posted two-straight 100-yard rushing games after racking up 221 yards vs. Assumption and 122 last week against Pace at home. Perry had touchdown runs of 13 and 9 in the game. Charles Granatell, Bryant¹s sophomore quarterback, has completed 74 of 128 passes for 847 yards and seven touchdowns. He has thrown just four interceptions, with three coming in Saturday¹s win over Pace. Bryant¹s defense has seven interceptions this season (3 vs. Pace) and has 11 sacks this season. Bryant¹s offensive line has surrendered just one sack all season.

THE PIONEERS OF C.W. POST: Under the direction of sixth-year coach Bryan Collins, the C.W. Post Pioneers have been one of the most dominant teams in the region for the past several seasons. This year proves to be no different as the Pioneers, an affiliate member of the Northeast-10 Conference, were picked to finish first by the coaches in the preseason NE-10 Coaches¹ Poll in August. This week, CW Post is locked with Bentley atop the conference standings as the only two undefeated teams in conference play this season. The Pioneers fell in the first round of last year¹s NCAA playoffs to West Chester University (35-3). Last year, CW Post led the conference in rushing defense, allowing a mere 42.8 yards per game. This year, CW Post is allowing 58.5 yards rushing per game and 215.5 yards passing. Offensively in 2005, the Pioneers are averaging 547.8 yards of total offense (300 rushing / 247 passing) and have outscored opponents 226-96. The only loss of the year was a nonconference matchup with East Stroudsburg though still managing to score 49 points in a 66-49 loss. Anthony Lazarus is averaging 122.2 yards rushing while Rob Blount, this week¹s NE-10 Offensive Player of the Week, is averaging 197.5 yards passing and has eight TD passes. He had 234 yards passing and 4 TDs last week vs. Saint Anselm.

LAST YEAR VS. CW POST: Russell Jessamy rushed for 107 yards and scored twice to lead first-place CW Post to a 24-0 win over the Bulldogs. Bryant was held to just 80 yards of total yards in the game and saw its two-game win streak come to an abrupt end. The Bulldog defense played well early against the powerful Pioneers, holding the visitors to just one first quarter field goal following a first quarter fumble by Bryant. The Bulldogs would turn the ball over again in the second quarter (on their own 19) and Jessamy would score from 10 yards out two plays later. David Boak had eight tackles on the day for the Bulldogs.

PLENTY OF OFFENSE EARLY: After just three games, Bryant is averaging 391 yards of total offense and 32.5 points per game. The Bulldogs blanked AIC 21-0 in the opener, scored 40 points in a loss to Merrimack in Week 2, and poured on 48 points against Assumption. Fourth quarters have been the most productive with Bryant outscoring opponents 41-19 in the final period. Last week against Pace, neither team scored in the second half.

NEXT UP: Bryant will head to Long Island next weekend as the Bulldogs will take on Northeast-10 preseason favorite C.W. Post in Brookville, NY for a 12 p.m. game. The next home game will be Saturday, Sept. 8 against Stonehill.

QUITE THE CROWD: Bryant, which has led the Northeast-10 Conference in attendance in four of the last five years, drew 4,820 fans for Homecoming & Reunion Weekend against Pace on Sept. 24 and had 4,310 fans on hand for the opener vs. AIC back on Sept. 3. Opened in 1998 and completed in 1999 for Bryant¹s first varsity season, Bulldog Stadium seats 4,400. Bryant¹s largest crowd for a football game is 5,561 in 1998 for a game vs. Assumption during Bryant¹s club season.
