Key Moment
- Each of Rutgers' first five hits went for extra bases as the Scarlet Knights built a 5-0 lead after two innings.
How it Happened
- Rutgers grabbed the early lead with three in the first. Back-to-back doubles were followed by a two-run home run to make it 3-0.
- In the second, a leadoff triple was followed by a wild pitch and a Peyton Bonds RBI single made it 5-0.
- Bryant cut into the deficit in the third as Wensley scored Irizarry with a triple to right center and Saul doubled down the left field line to score Wensley. (2-5)
- Rutgers tried to extend the lead in the third using a first-and-third play but Bryant executed perfectly. The runner on first took off and the Bulldogs threw through to second, eventually tagging the runner out between first and second. The Rutgers runner attempted to take home prior to the tag and was initially ruled to have scored but official review wiped the run off the board.
- The Scarlet Knights did extend the lead with a run in the fourth. A ground ball to first brought home the run.
- Bryant rallied in the fifth but was able to push across just one run. Wensley started the rally with a single, Garcia worked a walk and Greger followed with an RBI single through the right side. A walk loaded the bases with one out but reliever Vincent Borghese struck out back-to-back batters to limit the damage.
- Rutgers looked to put the game away in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs. Zaslaw, however, was able to escape unscathed. Garcia fielded a 112-MPH scorcher from Bonds and threw home for the force out before Irizarry started an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.
- Schiff came on with one out in the seventh and proceeded to strikeout four over 1.2 scoreless.
