BULLDOGS BEGIN 2026 SEASON IN AGGIE CLASSIC

COLLEGE STATION, TX. - The Bryant University softball team begins the 2026 season down in Texas as they compete in the Aggie Classic hosted by Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs will face Abilene Christian and Providence on Friday, followed by Utah State and ACU on Saturday, and conclude with Bryant's final game against the No. 1 team in the country, Texas Tech, on Sunday.

Series History
  • This is the first time the Bulldogs will face ACU in program history, as well as Utah State.
  • The Black and Gold are 1-12 all-time against the Friars. Bryant fell 8-6 and 5-4 to PC last season.
  • The Bulldogs are 0-4 all-time against the Red Raiders, and this will be the first matchup since 2013. The last time Bryant faced a top-five team in the country was in 2020 against #2 Oklahoma. The Bulldogs were tied 3-3 after three innings. before the Sooners broke away for an 8-3 victory.
Bulldogs Notes and Notables
  • Bryce Clendenin and Jaelynn Lee are returning to their home state of Texas. Clendenin was one of four Bulldogs last season to eclipse 40 hits and was named to the America East All-Rookie team. Lee made both the AE All-Second and Rookie teams last year. She hit .290 in 2025, while tallying 18 hits and stealing six bases.
  • Lexi Powell earned preseason All-AE honors. She is coming off a career-high in strikeouts (38) and innings pitched (85). Powell also played in the field and recorded nine hits, four doubles, and three RBI.
  • Maddy Wachter posted a 10-8 record on the mound last season. She earned a spot on the AE All-Rookie team and pitched seven complete games and a no-hitter in the regular season finale against Maine.
  • Laniya Lewis had a career year last year, tallying 21 hits, 15 rBI, two doubles, one triple, and three home runs. She had four multi-hit games.
  • Bianka Bell enters her third season as head coach. She has a 56-49 record, the best mark for a coach in program history in her first two seasons at the helm.
Scouting the Competition
  • ACU ended the year with a 15-38 record in 2025. The Wildcats made the postseason last season for the fifth time in DI program history.
  • The Friars finished 2025 with a 25-31 record. Elisa Smith and Tori Gifone both return after earning All-Big East Second Team honors. 
  • Utah State posted a 26-26 record last year. Grace Matej and Kya Pratt both earned preseason All-Mountain West honors.
  • Texas Tech posted a 54-14 record last season, and fell to Texas in the Women's College World Series. Nijaree Canady was the BIG 12 Player of the Year last year and a to-3 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. She posted a 1.11 ERA, 319 strikeouts, and a 34-7 record.
