SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant baseball junior shortstop Drew Wyers claimed the program's second-straight America East batting title following the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday.
Wyers, who hit .422 overall in 40 games, becomes the sixth player in DI program history to win a batting title. He joins Robby Rinn (2016), Ryan Ward (2018), Liam McGill (2021), Matt Woods (2022) and Zac Zyons (2024) who all won the award. Wyers is the first player in the America East to hit .400+ since Stony Brook's Travis Jankowski hit .414 in 2012.
After joining the Bulldogs as a transfer last fall, Wyers suffered an injury during January that cost him the first three weeks of the season. Wyers had a slow start, going 10-for-34 in his first 11 games. He's followed that up by going 44-for-94 (.468) with 14 multi-hit games in his last 29. Wyers is the first Bulldog since 2021 to hit .400 or better in the regular season and just the third in DI program history to do so. McGill hit .467 in 2021, while Ryan Ward hit .408 in 2018. Wyers enters the postseason leading the America East in slugging (.734), OBP (.526) and OPS (1.260), while ranking fourth in RBI (46) and tied for fifth in home runs (10). He hit an incredible .438 with a .542 OBP and a 1.305 OPS in league play.
Bryant will be the No. 1 seed in the 2025 America East Baseball Championships and will play its first game on Thursday, May 22 against the lowest remaining seed following Wednesday's single-elimination round.
