Key Moment
  • A check swing by Sean O'Leary resulted in a two-out throwing error that extended the 11th for UML. Martinez followed with a two-run double to break the tie.
How it Happened
  • UML struck first, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs before a ground ball to first plated the first run. Nick Solarzano then hit a high fly ball down the right field line that was misplayed and fell for an RBI double. Schiff was able to avoid further trouble as he got a foul pop and a ground out to strand the bases loaded.
  • Bryant had its best chance in the fourth but two plays had a big impact on the inning. Casey Wensley led off and his ground ball up the middle was thrown away but Wensley was tagged out trying to take second on the overthrow. The Bulldogs would then put the next two runners on and Justin Hackett lined one to right that Carlos Martinez made a diving catch on, robbing the Bulldogs of two runs. Bryant would put runners on second and third before a fly out ended the rally.
  • The River Hawks extended their lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
  • Bryant rallied to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Charlie Saul singled, Hunter Kingsbury walked and Cam Papetti singled to load the bases with one out. After a fielder's choice at the plate recorded the second out, Irizarry pushed a two-run single through the right side to get Bryant on the board. Casey Wensley followed with a sharp single up the middle to bring in the tying run. Irizarry was tagged out at third on the play, bringing the inning to an end.
  • The Bulldogs had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth as it put two runners on with one out. Carlos Irizarry then drilled one to deep left center that was caught on the warning track. A ground ball to first ended the inning.
  • In the 11th, Aidan Vining retired the first two batters and was ahead of Rowan Masse 1-2 but Masse singled to deep short to extend the inning. O'Leary then checked his swing and dribbled it out in front of home. Vining raced in and threw wild to first, putting runners on second and third. Martinez, a Bryant killer throughout his career, doubled to deep right center to break the tie. Solarzano then homered to right center to make it 7-3.
  • Bryant rallied in the bottom of the 11th, loading the bases with one out. A questionable strike call on an outside pitch recorded the second out but Wensley battled a full count before lofting a two-run single to left center. He alertly took second on the play but a fly ball to right center ended the rally.
