Bryant visits No. 14 Virginia Tech this weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team heads to Blacksburg, Virginia, this weekend for a three-game set against No. 14 Virginia Tech.

The series opens Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and continues on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.). All three games of the series will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

  • Picard shined in his first collegiate start last Friday on Opening Day. He allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out five.
  • Turner also turned in a strong showing on opening weekend, allowing one run on two hits over 4.0 innings. He struck out five and walked two. 
  • Frasier will look to bounce back this weekend after allowing four runs on four hits over 3.0 innings. He struck out a pair.  

Bryant vs. Virginia Tech

  • Bryant and Virginia Tech have met 13 times, with the Hokies holding a 7-6 lead in the all-time series. 
  • The two teams last met in 2020, a three-game sweep for Tech. It marked the first time in four tries that the Hokies had won a series against the Bulldogs.
  • Bryant took two-of-three from the Hokies in 2019.   

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant was swept at High Point on opening weekend. The Bulldogs dropped a 6-2 decision on Opening Day, before falling 7-6 and 10-5 to wrap up the series. 
  • The Black and Gold were led by Brian Schaub, who hit .500 with a .667 OBP. He also scored a team-high three runs.
  • Bryant received some offensive muscle from Gavin Noriega, Zach DeMattio and Schaub who all hit their first Bryant home runs last weekend. 
  • Caden Dulin finished his weekend on a high note, collecting the first two hits and driving in the first two runs of his collegiate career.
