Panno drives in six, Patterson tosses six scoreless as Bulldogs roll

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Tyler Panno (Rivervale, N.J.) drove in a career-high six runs and junior Jack Patterson (Suffield, Conn.) tossed six shutout innings to lead the Bryant University baseball team to an 11-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in game one of Sunday's Northeast Conference doubleheader at Conaty Park.

The win is the eighth-straight for the Bulldogs (25-21, 17-4 NEC) and their 29th-consecutive win over the Mountaineers (7-35, 4-19 NEC).

Panno went 3-for-4 with six RBI and finished a home run shy of the cycle to lead a Bulldog offense that posted double-digit runs and double-digit hits for the third-straight game. All nine starters contributed a hit, with freshman Jimmy Titus (Stafford, Conn.) the only other to post a multi-hit outing (2-3, 2R). Junior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman Chris Wright (Cumberland, R.I.) both went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored. Gasper has now reached safely in all 12 at-bats in the series.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the first, scoring three runs after there were two outs in the inning. Gasper kept the inning alive with a single up the middle, Wright walked and Titus beat out an infield single to load the bases. Panno then fought off four two-strike pitches before ripping a bases-clearing triple to right center.

It remained 3-0 until Bryant put the game away with a six-run fifth and two more runs in the sixth. In the fifth, a single and two walks loaded the bases for Titus who delivered an RBI single. Panno followed with a two-run single to center and Ciliento followed that with a two-run double over the head of the center fielder to make it 8-0. Senior Jacob Marotta (Bridgewater, Mass.) capped the inning with an RBI double down the left field line.

The Bulldogs strung together three-straight extra-base hits in the sixth to complete their scoring. Freshman Bryan Hart (Franklin, Mass.) tripled to dead center, Panno scored him with a double down the right field line and senior Joe Paparelli (Preston, Conn.) blooped a double into center to make it 11-0.

Patterson was lights out for the Bulldogs as he tossed six scoreless innings to earn improve to 3-0 on the year. He walked two, struck out seven and allowed just four hits. Patterson stranded two in the third, two in the fourth and left a man at third in the fifth. He has not allowed a run in his last 21 innings.

Zach Call took the loss for Mount, allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings. Alex Kriss led Mount with two hits.
