Box Score

ITHACA, N.Y. – In true dramatic fashion, the Bryant University women's basketball team fell just short, to Cornell on a last second jumper 66-64, Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena.

With time winding down, Cornell ran a pick-and-pop between Christine Kline and Nicholle Aston, setting up an Aston 16-footer to give the Big Red (4-4) a 66-64 lead with 4.3 seconds left. Out of the timeout, Jenniqua Bailey (Bloomfield, Conn.) took the ball the length of the court and laid it in with time expiring but the shot was too late, resulting in a 66-64 Cornel victory.

Freshman guard Ivory Bailey (Wyomissing, Pa.) led the Bulldogs (6-2) with 18 points and six rebounds, while junior forward Breanna Rucker (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted yet another double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 28 minutes of action.

Jenniqua Bailey put together a captain-worthy performance, putting up 12 points, a career-high nine assists, five rebounds and four steals, while junior guard Tiersa Winder (Baltimore, Md.) rounded out the Bryant double digit scorers with 12 points. Sophomore center Morgan Olander (Mansfield, Conn.) finished with nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Cornell's Nia Marshall led all scorers with 19 points, while Megan LeDuc and Kline finished with 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

It was the Ivory Bailey show in the first few minutes of Saturday's contest with the freshman scoring 11 of Bryant's first 18 points to help the Bulldogs to an early 10-point edge. But five-straight points from Kline brought the Big Red back within striking distance, 18-13, at the under-12 media break. The 14-4 Cornell run brought the hosts even, 22-22, through the six minute mark, eventually taking its first lead of the game on a Marshall free throw with just over five minutes remaining in the period.

The Bulldogs struggled to score in the second half of the opening frame, putting up 10 points in the final 10:45, however 16 first half points from Ivory Bailey kept the Black and Gold in it, down 33-32 at halftime.

Out of the break, the Big Red opened its largest lead of the afternoon, 43-38, thanks to strong post play from Marshall, but five-straight points from Rucker even the score, 43-43, with just over 14 minutes left on the clock. Another Rucker trifecta and a sweet spin-move finish from Jenniqua Bailey pushed the Bulldogs into the lead, 48-43, before a Kerri Moran layup brought the hosts back with three with 11:23 left in the contest.

The lead continued to change hands through the five-minute mark, until a 4-0 Cornell run gave the hosts a four-point edge, 64-60, with just 2:56 left to play. One free throw apiece from both Winder and Rucker brought the Black and Gold within a single bucket with 44 seconds left on the clock, setting up a Winder baseline drive to knot the score with just 20 seconds remaining on the clock.

Cornell answered with the eventual game-winner on an Aston 16-foot jumper to seal the 66-64 victory.

Looking ahead, Bryant will head to UMass Lowell on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt with the River Hawks.
