BULLDOGS ONE-HIT BY UCONN;
FALL 3-0 AT HOME TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Box Score
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – University of Connecticut pitcher
Tricia Sullivan pitched a complete game one-hitter on Tuesday
afternoon as the Huskies blanked the Bryant University softball
team, 3-0, in a non-conference meeting at the Bryant Softball
Complex.
With the loss, the Bulldogs (3-24) have now dropped 11
consecutive games. Junior Sami Houseal (Mount Joy,
Pa.) struggled in the first inning but continued to pitch
a great game the rest of the way. Houseal pitched her sixth
complete game of the season, allowing just six hits, giving up
three runs and striking out four.
All of the damage was done in the first inning as the Huskies
(12-18) scored three runs on four hits. With two runners in
scoring position and one out in the top of the first, UConn senior
Justyne Roy hit a frozen rope to left center to plate both her
teammates and give the Huskies the quick 2-0 lead. UConn would add
one more on a Marissa Guches single which plated Roy for the third
and final run of the inning as well as the game.
Houseal settled down after the first inning, retiring 10
straight batters. However, the Bulldogs could not get the bat on
the ball as they had only two base runners and picked up only one
hit in the game.
The lone Bryant hit came in the bottom of the second inning on a
Talia Zizza (Reading, Mass.) double off the left
center fence, just inches away from her second homerun of
the season. With the hit Zizza extends her hitting streak to four
games.
Bryant's only other runner was sophomore Laura
Bowen (Hudson, Mass.), who reach base on a third inning
walk.
In a game that took just one hour and 20 minutes, Houseal picked
up her 10th loss of the season. She is still in search of her first
win in the 2010 campaign.
Bryant third baseman Regi Burdo (Wayne, Pa.)
played an excellent game on the hot corner recording a team high
six assists.
The Black and Gold look to snap its 11 game losing-streak on
Saturday, April 10th when the Bulldogs host Central Connecticut for
a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
