Bryant Softball Splits a Pair With #13 C.W. Post

Smithfield, RI - The Bryant University softball team (13-13) split a doubleheader with #13 C.W. Post (24-8) this afternoon winning Game One, 5-4, in eight innings, and dropping Game Two by the score of 8-0 in five innings.

In Game One, the game was scoreless until the Pioneers erupted for three runs in the top of the fifth, two coming on a homerun by Holly Eringis (Tewksbury, MA). The Bulldogs would get two runs back in the bottom half of the inning on a two RBI single by Lindsay Connor (West haven, CT). C.W. Post would add to their lead in the top of the seventh scoring another run taking a 4-2 lead. Once again, the Bryant bats would respond tying the game with a homerun from freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) and an RBI double from Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, MA). In the extra frame, the Bryant defense held the Pioneers scoreless in the top of the eighth. Jen Serrano (Stoneham, MA) had the winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth giving the Bulldogs a 5-4 victory.

On the mound sophomore Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) allowed four runs while striking out nine earning her fifth victory of the season.

Game Two saw a magnificent pitching performance by C.W. Post's freshman Jackie Sasko (Hamilton, NJ). Sasko threw five innings allowing just one hit while striking out six Bulldogs.

That was all the Pioneers would need as the scored a pair of runs in the second and then three runs in the fourth and fifth to win the game 8-0 in five innings. Senior Jordan Dargon (Trumbull, CT) had the lone hit for Bryant. Freshman Megan Correia (Seekonk, MA) went 3-3 with a run scored and three RBI's to help earn the victory for the Pioneers. Senior Joanna Moccia (Glen Cove, NY) went 1-3 with four runs batted in including a bases clearing triple.

Bryant returns to action on Tuesday when they will travel to Merrimack for double-header action beginning at 3:00 pm.
