Bryant Softball Splits a Pair with
Assumption
Smithfield,
RI - The Bryant University softball team welcomed
Assumption College to the Bryant Softball Complex for a
double-header on Wednesday afternoon. This was the Northeast-10
Conference opener for both teams. Bryant would take the first game
10-0 in six innings, but would drop the second game 3-0 in six
innings (darkness). The Bulldogs are now 2-8 overall and 1-1 in
conference play. The Greyhounds are 10-8 overall and are also 1-1
in the Northeast-10.
The first game of the double-header featured a great pitching
performance by junior Nikki Ingalls
(Westford,
MA) and an explosive offensive
attack from the Bulldogs bats. Ingalls threw six shutout innings in
registering her first win of the season while only allowing six
hits.
The Bulldogs attack was led by junior Amanda Wilbur
(Lakeville,
MA) who went 3-4 with three runs
and three RBI's. Sophomore Victoria Duane
(West Haven,
CT) ended the game in the bottom
of the sixth with a three-run homerun to deep left center field.
She finished going 2-3 with three RBI's and a run scored.
Sophomore Korina Salafia
(Leominster,
MA) and junior Marybeth
Beaudry (Worcester,
MA) each had two hits for the
Greyhounds.
Game two featured more of a pitchers duel ending in six innings
due to darkness. The Greyhounds jumped on the Bulldogs in the top
of the first striking with three runs thanks to four singles in the
frame. Salafia had another two hits and scored one run. Senior
Lisa Castillo
(Lawrence,
MA) also chipped in with two hits
and scored a run.
Sophomore Janine Enos
(Wareham,
MA) went the distance in the loss
for the Bulldogs striking out eight and surrendering nine hits.
Junior Stephanie Brooks
(Reading,
MA) also went the distance
preserving the shutout by scattering six hits and striking out six
Bulldogs.
Bryant will travel to Saint Rose on Saturday, April 1 with first
pitch at 12:00 pm.
