Regionals

SYRACUSE, NY – The Bryant University softball team saw its
incredible season end Friday as the Bulldogs were eliminated from
the 2005 NCAA Regional Championships with a tough 1-0 loss to host
Le Moyne. The Bulldogs were making their second-straight NCAA
appearance and end the year with a record fo 29-17 - setting a new
school mark for wins in a season - and capturing the school's
first-ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship.
After falling to Dowling in the opener, the Bulldogs managed
just three hits off Le Moyne pitcher Sarah Reed as the third-seeded
Dolphins held off the fifth-seed Bulldogs. Le Moyne would
score its only run of the game in the top of the first as Jennifer
Winters lined a one-out double to right and came around to score on
Reed's two-out single to right.
The Bulldogs did have an opportunity to get on the
scoreboard earlier in the top of the first. Northeast-10
Conference Player of the Year Deidre Kittredge and Jordan Dargon
each line back-to-back singles, but Reed struck out the final
batter of the inning to end the threat.
Bryant would also have runners in scoring position in the
second and fifth innings but could not get a run home.
Jessica Valenti accounted for the only other hit on the day as
pitcher Diane Cummings took the loss, despite striking out six Le
Moyne batters.
