as the
Bulldogs Squeak by Adelphi 68-67

Bryant University women's basketball team welcomed Adelphi
University of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, to the
Chace Athletic Center for just the Bulldogs' second home
game. The Bulldogs held off a furious second half by the Panthers
to defeat Adelphi by one 68-67. Bryant improves to 2-4 overall and
Adelphi drops to 2-4.
Bryant University Bulldogs could do nothing wrong in the first half
as they shot 69% from the field and 66% from beyond the arc.
Juniors Joanna Skiba (Providence, RI) and
Lauren Rubenoff (New Hartford, CT) led the first
half attack each scoring 11 points. Bryant would take a 47-29 lead
into the locker room at the half. Skiba finished the game with her
second straight 20+ point game with a game high 21. Rubenoff
contributed a double-double including 13 points and 12 boards.
The second half was a whole new ball game as the Panthers crept
back into the game bucket after bucket. In the first six minutes of
the second half, Adelphi came out on a 10-2 run to cut the Bulldog
lead to just eight points. The two teams would then exchange
baskets for the next two minutes. From the 12 minute mark, the
Panthers added another solid run scoring nine straight points to
cut the lead to just two. Adelphi sophomore Mary Lepore (Manhasset,
NY) tied the game at 56-56 with one free throw and then gave the
Panthers their first lead of the game by knocking down the next
free throw.
Freshman Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ), who made her
first career start tonight, put Bryant back on top by draining a
deep three from the corner. The Bulldogs led 61-59 and would hold
off Adelphi in the remaining minutes giving Bryant their second
victory of the season.
Through all the madness, Head Coach Mary Burke earned her
200th career win on this night.
Bryant University returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on
Saturday, December 10th when they will visit Stonehill at
1:30pm.
