BRYANT WOMEN FALL TO STONEHILL 71-57
Skiba Scores 19 For Bulldogs
EASTON, Mass. – Alisha Collins
scored a game-high 22 points and freshman Kelsey Simonds added 15
points and 18 rebounds as Stonehill College remained undefeated on
the season with a 71-57 win over the Bryant University
women's basketball at Merkert Gymnasium Saturday
afternoon.
Bryant (2-5, 0-5 NE-10) got 19 points from
junior guard Joanna Skiba who was 7 of 14 from the floor including
3-for-5 from three-point range. Lynne-Ann Kokoski was the
only other player reaching double figures for the Bulldogs as the
sophomore finished with 10 points and added six rebounds.
Bryant led by eight early, 21-13 after a pair of
free throws from Abby Lesneski with 9:55 left, but the Skyhawks
would use a 17-0 run over the next five minutes and out-scored the
Bulldogs 28-7 for the remainder of the first half to take a 41-28
lead into the locker room at the break.
The Bulldogs shot 30.9 percent from the floor in
the game and made 19 of 27 free throw attempts in the game.
Erin Murphy and Megan Peper each had nine and seven points
respectively for the Bulldogs.
Stonehill (9-0, 5-0 NE-10) got 13 points and
four assists from guard Kim Morast as the Skyhawks shot 44.4
percent from the floor and out-rebounded the visitors 45-38 in the
game. Simonds, a 6-foot-3 freshman from Bridgewater, MA had
six offensive rebounds and 12 on the defensive end. She was 7 of 14
shooting from the floor and had six blocks.
Bryant will host Saginaw Valley State (MI) for a
non-conference game on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Chace Athletic Center
(1:30 pm).
