SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant men's basketball head coach
Jamion Christian announced the promotion of
Morgan Williams and the addition of Zavier Anderson and Randy Phillips to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2026-27 season on Tuesday afternoon.
Williams spent the 2025-26 season as a volunteer assistant, while Anderson and Phillips join the Bulldogs from FIU and UNC Greensboro, respectively.Â
These three will be joined by second-year associate head coach Harley Fuller, TJ McEnaney (special assistant to the head coach) and Sean Oates (basketball innovation and data).
"I'm excited to introduce a dynamic trio of assistants who bring a wealth of experience from the college basketball scene," Christian said. "This off-season has been a time of reflection and strategic planning, honing in on what makes us unique within the Bryant community and fine-tuning our program to propel us back into the NCAA Tournament. Together, this group enhances our coaching staff with their expertise and passion, driving us toward our shared goal of achieving greatness on the court."
Morgan Williams - Assistant Coach (Offense)
"Morgan is a testament to growth and dedication. Watching him rise from a manager at the Mount to the exceptional coach he is now has been a rewarding experience. Morgan's hands-on approach with players and his sharp analytical skills in breaking down opposing teams' film make him an invaluable asset. His winning mindset and infectious energy are exactly what we need to reclaim our position at the top of the America East."
- Will now serve as an assistant coach and work with the offense after spending the 2025-26 as a defensive assistant and the director of advanced scouting with the Black and Gold.Â
- The 2026-27 season will be his sixth on Christian's staff after spending four seasons as a student manager while an undergrad at Mount St. Mary's.
- Williams has also spent three season as an assistant coach at Mount Aloysius College, one at Saint Peter's and three at Seton Hall.
Zavier Anderson - Assistant Coach (Defensive Coordinator)
"Zavier is someone I hold in high regard, particularly for his ability to forge strong relationships with players and his versatility in adapting defensive philosophies. I had the privilege of working alongside him at VCU during the 2011-2012 season, where we spent countless late nights in the office or on the court, pushing our players to new heights. Witnessing his evolution from a Graduate Assistant to the seasoned coach he is today has been inspiring. I'm eager to see what we can achieve together once again."
- Comes to Smithfield with 15 years of coaching experience at the Division I level, including the last eight at FIU.
- Anderson's eight seasons at FIU included three seasons as the Assistant Director of Operations/Player Development and the last five as an assistant coach with the Panthers. He oversaw all aspects of the team's defensive strategy, including game planning, practice implementation and in-game adjustments.
- During his first season with the Panthers, FIU went 20-14 overall with a 10-8 Conference USA record. The team's 20 wins marked just the third time in school history that FIU logged 20-or-more victories and were tied for the second most in a single season, while the 10 C-USA wins was the most since joining the conference.
- In addition to his time at FIU, Anderson also spent four seasons at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), one season at The Citadel and two seasons at VCU. He served as the Director of Operations at UAB and The Citadel and a graduate assistant at VCU.
- In his first year at UAB, Anderson was part of a staff that led the Blazers to the school's first-ever Conference USA Tournament Championship and an impressive, 60-59, win against No. 3 seed Iowa State in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
- At VCU, he was part of a staff that led the Rams to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013.
- A walk-on and 2011 graduate of Clemson, Anderson appeared in 56 games, scored 47 points, handed out 44 assists and forced 26 steals during his four-year career. During his senior season in 2010-11, he earned the Most Improved Player Award due in large part to playing the most minutes of any walk-on in Tigers history.
Randy Phillips - Assistant Coach (Defense) and Recruiting
"Pop"Â comes highly recommended by my trusted friends Donny Lind and Mike Jones, who have consistently praised his unique ability to connect with players and mentors. His knack for developing post players is perfectly suited for our needs, especially with Keegan Harvey coming back and Andre Pasha joining us. Pop's coaching journey is marked by success at every stop, consistently elevating those around him. His presence is sure to bring out the best in our team.
- Phillips comes to Smithfield after spending the last five seasons on staff at UNC Greensboro. He will serve as a defensive assistant and will help in recruiting.
- Phillips served as the program director with the Spartans where he oversaw all managers and graduate assistants. He was in charge of all basketball facilities (locker room and lounge), practice preparation, and all food/snack related matters. In addition, he assisted the Director of Basketball Operations and the Director or Recruiting.Â
- UNCG enjoyed success in Phillips' time, posting three-straight 20-win seasons. The Spartans earned a CBI bid in 2021-22 and went 14-4 in the SoCON in 2022-23.
- After graduating from Radford in 2018, Phillips played professionally in Canada, France, and Switzerland. He most recently played for JSA Bordeaux in France. He averaged 11.4 points per game while playing for the London Lightning.
- As a senior at Radford, Phillips played in 36 games and made 34 starts. He set career highs in minutes played per game (22.8), points per game (6.8), rebounds per game (5.6), blocks (35), assists (26), steals (17), shooting percentage (.544), and free throw percentage (.608). Phillips led the Big South with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game.
