BULLDOGS FALL TO HOLY CROSS IN EXTRAS, 7-6, ON WEDNESDAY

Key Moment
  • Sandell scored the winning run with a squeeze in the bottom of the 10th.
How it Happened
  • Holy Cross scored five times in the first two innings to build a big lead early. In the first, three-straight two-out hits plated three runs.
  • In the second, Liam Daly led off with a home run and Owen Stelzer walked and came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
  • Bryant loaded the bases in two of the first three innings but couldn't plate a run. In the first, a fly ball to right turned into an inning-ending double play as Nick Anderson's throw to the plate nabbed Casey Wensley. A called third strike stranded the bases loaded in the third.
  • Greger got Bryant on the board in a big way in the fourth as he launched a 3-2 pitch off the top of the scoreboard in deep right center.
  • The Bulldogs tacked on a second run in the fifth as Irizarry singled and came around to score as Hunter Kingsbury slashed a two-out double into the left center gap.
  • Bryant came all the way back to take the lead, 6-5, with four runs in top of the sixth. Cam Papetti was HBP and raced all the way around to score as Greger tripled into the right field corner. Justin Hackett followed with a line drive to short that caromed off the fielder's glove and into shallow center for an RBI double.
  • Dylan Prince was HBP to put two on and both runners advanced on a fly out. Irizarry plated both with a chopper through the left side (6-5).
  • Holy Cross rallied to tie the game in what turned into a wild seventh. A walk and a single put two with one out before Jackson Vanesko got a big strikeout. Van Coughlin followed with a nine-pitch at-bat, eventually lining one inside the bag at third and towards the Holy Cross bullpen. It appeared to give the Crusaders the lead but the second runner was sent back to third after it was ruled the ball touched a member of the Holy Cross bullpen. A walk loaded the bases but Vanesko ended the rally with a strikeout.
  • The teams then traded zeroes in the eighth and ninth before Holy Cross won it in the 10th. Daly singled to start the inning and then took second as Papetti's throw behind him at first got into right field. He moved to third on a sac bunt and then scored on Sandell's bunt.
