SOFTBALL TO COMPETE IN HOKIE INVITE

SALEM, VA. - The Bryant University softball team heads to Virginia to compete in the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.

The Bulldogs will face Michigan, Radford, James Madison, Boston College, and #12 Virginia Tech. The tournament will take place Friday-Sunday.

Series History
  • This will be the first time that the Bulldogs face Michigan, JMU, and Virginia Tech.
  • The Black and Gold are tied 1-1 in the series with Radford, with both games taking place in 2023.
  • Bryant is 1-14 all-time in the series against the Eagles. The Bulldogs' lone victory came in 2011.
Bulldogs Notes and Notables
  • Bryce Clendenin was named the America East Player of the Week after her performance at the Blue Hen Invitational. She tallied a .500 average with five hits, two doubles, and six RBI. 
  • Maddy Wachter threw her third complete game of the season in the victory against Delaware. She had a season-high five strikeouts. Wachter is at the top of the team with 11 Ks.
  • Gabriella Gesualdo leads the team with 11 hits this year. She is also hitting a team-high .344. Gesualdo has three multi-hit games, with two taking place last weekend.
  • Teagan Thompson hit her first career home run over the weekend. She is the fourth Bulldog this season to tally their first career home run.
Scouting the Competition
  • The Wolverines head into the weekend with a 16-5 record. Lauren Putz leads the team in home runs (11), AVG (.473), and OPS (1.781).
  • JMU has tallied a 9-7 record this season and has won its last two games. The Dukes have six players hitting above .300 and two who have tallied 20+ hits.
  • Radford heads into the tournament with a 5-11 record. Grace Hogie and Peyton Simmons are hitting above .400. 
  • The Eagles are 7-12 this year and are on a two-game winning streak. Abby Ptak has a team-high 28 hits and two HRs.
  • The Hokies are 16-2 and ranked 12th in the nation. They are currently on a nine-game winning streak. Bree Carrico has a sub-2 ERA (1.62) and a 4-0 record. Emma Mazzarone is not far behind with a 2.06 and a 4-1 record.
