BRYANT TO FACE IN-STATE RIVAL BROWN TUESDAY IN PROVIDENCE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant baseball team makes the short trip to Providence on Tuesday afternoon to take on in-state rival Brown. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

Bryant vs. Brown

  • Bryant holds a 21-10 in the all-time series with Brown. The Bears, however, won 3-of-4 last season, including each of the last three.
  • The Bulldogs defeated Brown 3-1 in the first game of a weekend series last season only to see the Bears rebound for a doubleheader sweep on Sunday, 7-4 and 7-6.
  • Brown completed the series with a 10-6 victory in Providence. The Bears scored five times in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Familiar Face

  • Bryant will see a familiar face on Tuesday as Hall of Famer and 2013 grad Pete Kelich is in his first season as the pitching coach for the Bears.
  • Kelich is arguably the greatest pitcher in Bryant history, going 30-11 with a program record 273 strikeouts. He was named the 2012 NEC Pitcher of the Year.
  • Kelich also delivered on the biggest stage, allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings against Arkanas in the 2013 NCAA Manhattan Regional. The Bulldogs would go on to win the game, securing the school's first NCAA victory at the DI level.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters the week at 16-9 overall following a series victory over NJIT. The Bulldogs had their eight-game win streak snapped in the opener but rebounded to sweep a Sunday doubleheader, 7-5 and 13-9.
  • Bryant has won five of its first seven series this season.
  • The Bulldogs are 4-0 in midweek games, picking up wins over Stonehill (9-1), Holy Cross (11-1), Dartmouth (10-6) and URI (4-2).

  • Bryant has pitched to a 1.59 ERA in four midweek games. The Bulldogs have allowed just 23 hits in 34.0 innings along with 12 walks and 37 strikeouts. Ty Davis, who started Sunday, and Zach Davis each have three appearances. Zach Davis has tossed 4.1 innings of one-run relief.
