Bryant, UAlbany meet for three in Albany

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant baseball team heads to Albany, N.Y., this weekend for a three-game America East series against UAlbany. The series is set to begin Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.0

Bryant enters the weekend at 7-5 in America East play, while UAlbany is 3-9. The Great Danes won 2-of-3 in the first meeting between the two teams earlier this year.

  • Belcher delivered his first primetime start last week vs UMass Lowell, tossing a complete game in Bryant's run-rule victory over the River Hawks. He allowed just one run on three hits.
  • He enters this weekend 2-0 with a 4.61 ERA on the year and 1-0 with a 5.49 ERA in four America East starts. Belcher has walked eight and struck out 12 in 19.2 innings in league play.
  • In his first start vs UAlbany, Belcher allowed four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three in 3.0 innings. It marked his shortest start of the year.
  • Robbins enters the weekend at 1-0 with a 5.24 ERA overall and a 5.40 ERA in league play. He has walked seven and struck out 13 in 16.2 innings.
  • Robbins allowed five runs on four hits over 3.0 innings vs UAlbany earlier this year. That is the shortest start of his season.
  • Luke Delongchamp will make his fourth-straight Sunday start and is coming off a 4.0-inning start vs UML. He allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits. 
  • Delongchamp allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits over 3.1 innings vs UAlbany.
  • Banner is one of the premier arms in the America East, entering Friday with a 4-3 record and a 3.23 ERA in 61.1 innings. He's walked nine and struck out 40.
  • In league play, Banner has issued just four walks in 28.0 innings. Banner struck out a season-high seven over 8.0 innings of two-run ball earlier this year vs the Bulldogs.
  • Aidan Gelbsman is scheduled to make just his second collegiate start in game two. He has allowed two runs on two hits, walked four and struck out eight in 6.2 innings.
  • He has struck out five in three perfect innings of relief in America East play.

Bryant vs. UAlbany

  • Bryant owns a 10-2 lead in the all-time series with UAlbany. The Great Danes, however, won two-of-three earlier this year at Conaty Park.
  • The Great Danes won the opener 9-4 and then took game two, 13-9, in 14 innings. Bryant won the finale, 9-8.
  • Bryant swept a three-game series at UAlbany last season.

  • The Bulldogs hit .301 (37-123) with 15 extra-base hits in the first series. UAlbany hit .308 with 41 hits.
  • Bryant made eight errors in the three games.
  • In game one, Dylan Banner limited Bryant to two runs on four hits over 8.0 innings. The Great Danes scored four times in the fourth to expand a 1-0 lead. UAlbany put it away with three runs in the sixth.
  • In game two, UAlbany jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Bryant rallied to take a 6-4 lead in the sixth. In the seventh, Bryant pitchers walked three and hit two others as the Great Danes retook the lead. Bryant tied the game in the bottom of the eighth before UAlbany broke the tie with four runs in the 14th. Levi McAllister broke the tie with a two-run home run.
  • In game three, Bryant built a 4-0 lead before UAlbany scored the next six runs to make it 6-4 in the fifth. A four-run fifth put Bryant back on top and Pat D'Amico's double in the eighth provided the winning run.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is 19-16-1 overall and 7-5 in America East play. The Bulldogs earned a 7-6 win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Bulldogs have hit 86 doubles this year, including a DI single-game program record 10 last Saturday vs UML. Bryant now ranks 38th nationally in total doubles and 14th in doubles per game (2.40). 
  • Gavin Noriega drove in a run on Wednesday at UML and is now tied for the league lead with 38. He is hitting .333 with six doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and 16 runs scored in league play.
  • Drew Wyers enters the weekend first in the America East in average (.395), OBP (.514) and OPS (1.211). He is 30-for-76 with eight doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI. He also walked 12 times and been hit 12 times. Wyers has an 18-game on-base streak. In league play, Wyers is hitting .512 with a 1.509 OPS. He has 18 RBI.
  • Pat D'Amico owns a 1.295 OPS in league play, clubbing six doubles and four home runs. D'Amico hit a pair of home runs against the Great Danes.
  • Gavin Greger is batting .353 (18-51) with 11 RBI in league play.
  • Toby Scheidt has pitched well in league play, posting a 1.64 ERA in six appearances. He has walked three and struck out 12 in 11.0 innings. Scheidt tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief over two outings vs UAlbany.
  • Kyle Rizy has walked three and struck out 13 in 11.1 innings. Rizy struck out four over 3.0 innings of one-run relief vs UAlbany this year.
