SMITHFIELD, R.I. — The Bryant University men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action Friday afternoon as they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, to face Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m.
Both Bulldog squads enter the meet riding a wave of momentum after dominant performances against Providence last week, where the men and women swept nearly every event in front of a packed out deck.
On the men's side, they are coming off a dominate performance. Bryant opened its last meet with a statement win in the 400 medley relay behind
Zach Proulx,
Aidan Trenery, Tim Andrews, and
Arthur Newton.
In the pool,
Nick Andrews won both the 200 and 100 freestyle, while
James Misto continued his breakout season with victories in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Arthur Newton added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, and
Jack Ferguson and
Nick Austin controlled the breaststroke events.
On the boards, Bryant's diving duo of
Christopher Buonocore and
Lincoln Busa swept both the one- and three-meter events, securing crucial points in the team's commanding win.
They'll face a tough Holy Cross squad led by Noah Greiner, who set school records in the 200 butterfly, 200 IM, and 200 backstroke, and Cutcher, who broke the Crusaders' 1,000-yard freestyle record. Holy Cross also features Griffin Casey, an NCAA Zone qualifier who swept both diving events in their last outing.
What to Watch:
- A potential showdown between Buonocore and Casey on the boards.
- Newton vs. Greiner in the backstroke and IM events.
- The Bulldogs' depth in freestyle and butterfly matchups against Villani and Mottolese.
As for the women, Jocie Niemczyk led the charge with wins in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM, while Ruby Tonelli dominated both butterfly events.
Marcella Figueroa,
Addison Abreu, and Sophia Doersch swept the freestyle races, and
Kaitlyn Archambeault continued her stellar season with wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
On the diving boards,
Megan Beasley swept the one- and three-meter events with scores over 280, earning her second straight clean sweep.
Holy Cross counters with a deep women's roster that includes Brenna Short, who posted an NCAA Zone qualifying score on the one-meter board, and Nora Herbstzuber, who won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best 1:04.74. The Crusaders also feature Nora Smillie, who won the 50 freestyle in 24.09, and Brindle, who claimed victories in the 100 free and 100 fly.
