Box Score BALTIMORE – UMBC used a nine-run fifth inning to defeat the Bryant baseball team, 15-6, on Thursday night at Alumni Field.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 32-18 overall and 16-6 in America East play. Bryant and UMBC will wrap up their series with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 2:00 p.m.
Gavin Noriega picked up three hits, including his 17th home run of the season. Carmine Petosa extended his on-base streak to 53 games with a single.

- The Retrievers scored nine runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead. Danny Wyatt's grand slam was the big blow of the inning.
How it Happened
- Bryant grabbed the lead in the first as Noriega hit a towering drive to right field on a 3-2 pitch in the first.
- The Bulldogs then added three runs in the third to make it 4-0. Zyons started the scoring as he roped an 0-2 pitch off the right center wall for an RBI double. Einemann followed with a sac fly to make it 3-0. Zyons then made a daring dash for home as the UMBC starter worked from the full wind up. Zyons came home safely to make it 4-0.
- UMBC picked up a run in the third on an RBI single.
- The Retrievers then erased the deficit with five-straight hits to start the fifth inning. Back-to-back doubles opened the inning and a pair of seeing-eye singles tied the game. A fielder's choice gave UMBC a 5-4 lead. UMBC then got a grand slam to make it 9-4 and a wild pitch capped the nine-run inning.
- Bryant plated two runs in the top of the sixth as Phinney singled home a run and an errant pickoff throw scored the second.
- UMBC added a run in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and four more runs in the eighth.
