Bryant clinches share of America East Regular Season title, top seed in tournament

ORONO, Maine – The Bryant baseball team clinched at least a share of the America East Regular Season Championship with a 15-8 victory over Maine on Saturday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 31-16 overall and 16-4 in America East play. Bryant's victory also secured a share of the program's first-ever America East Regular Season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. The Bulldogs are the first program at Bryant to win a regular season title in the America East.

Carmine Petosa paced the offensive attack with three hits, including his 11th home run, and four RBI. In the process, Petosa tied the Bryant program record by reaching safely in his 50th-straight game. Brandyn Durand (1-2, HR, 3RBI, 2R) homered for the second-straight day and six different Bulldogs scored multiple runs.

Luke Delongchamp picked up his fifth win of the year with 5.0 innings of work. He allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out four.

  • Bryant scored in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 9-1 lead.

How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs scored four times in the first to open the scoring. Zyons singled, went to second on a balk and scored as the Black Bears threw away a bunt. Smith made it 3-0 with a two-run double to left center and Shea Grady capped the scoring with a sac fly.
  • Sac flies from Gavin Noriega and Brandyn Durand made it 6-0 in the second.
  • Maine would get a run on a solo home run in the second but Bryant quickly answered with three runs in the third. Einemann brought home a run with a sac fly and Petosa plated two with a single to left center to make it 9-1 after three.
  • Petosa's 11th home run of the year, a towering fly ball that just got over the wall, gave Bryant a 10-1 lead in the fifth.
  • The Black Bears got four back with one swing in the bottom of the fifth as Nick White hit a grand slam to left field. It was his second home run of the game.  
  • Bryant pushed the lead to 13-5 with three runs in the seventh. Noriega reached on a HBP and came around to score on a Petosa single up the middle. Durand then launched a two-run shot to deep left center cap the inning.
  • Einemann made it 15-5 with a two-run laser over the left field wall in the eighth. 
  • Jake Marquez hit a solo home run in the 8th for Maine and the Black Bears scored two on a single in the ninth.

  • Bryant's win coupled with losses by UMBC and NJIT secured a share of the America East Regular Season title.
  • It is Bryant's 11th regular season title in DI program history. The 2024 season is Bryant's 15th season (excluding 2020 COVID shortened year) in Division I.
  • The Bulldogs are the first Bryant program to win an America East Regular Season title since the school joined the league prior to the 2022-23 academic year.
  • Bryant is now 16-4 in league play and has clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
  • Bryant leads the league with 69 home runs this season. The DI single-season program record is 81 (2019). 
  • Carmine Petosa extended his on-base streak to 47 games this season and 50 dating back to last season with his walk. He has now tied Robby Rinn (2016) for the longest on-base streak in program history.
  • Petosa has walked 41 times this season, becoming just the fourth different player (Kevin Brown, Cole Fabio, Mickey Gasper) to walk 40+ times in a single season in DI program history.
  • Petosa's home run was his 11th of the year and the 25th of his career. He is two behind Kevin Brown's DI record of 27 and Marc Boccuzzi (1998-99) for fourth in program history.
  • With his sac fly, Noriega has driven in a league-leading 53 runs. He is tied with Mickey Gasper (2017) for the sixth-most in a single season in DI program history.
  • Durand's home run was his second of the series and his 10th of the year. He becomes the 11th player in DI program history with double-digit home runs in a single season.
  • Zyons extended his on-base streak to 27 games and his hitting streak to 13.
  • Greger now has hits in 12 of his last 13 games.
  • Einemann's home run was his second of the year. He also tied his season high with three RBI. 
  • Delongchamp earned his fifth win of the season and is now 4-0 in seven conference starts. 
  • Deitelbaum matched his longest outing of the season. He has thrown 2.1 in each of his last two appearances.
