Box Score 2 SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team dropped both games on Saturday at the CSUN Tournament, including a 4-1 deficit to Northern Colorado and a 9-2 loss to Murray State.
GAME ONE
The Bears (12-19) got off to an early lead, 1-0, scoring in the bottom of the first off Rachel Johnson's RBI double to center field. The Bulldogs (4-18) drew even in the top of the second, in the wake of senior Taylor Burger's (Killingworth, Conn.) triple to left center, followed by junior Robyn Ukegawa's (Carlsbad, Calif.) sacrifice fly to right field that plated Burger.
The Bears earned back the lead in the bottom of the third, when Sophia Taylor singled up the middle, plating Alex Sonoqui from second. The margin was later pushed to three after the Bears added a run in back-to-back innings that helped lift the team to a 4-1 victory.
Northern Colorado scored four runs off seven hits, while the Bulldogs totaled one run off three hits. The Bears were led by Taylor's 2-for-3 mark, while the Bulldogs' sophomore Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) finished 1-for-2.
Freshman Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) was dealt the loss after giving up four runs off six hits, while fanning one batter. Kelli Kleis recorded the win and Chandler Elsner the save, after the two together allowed no runs off two hits and one walk.
GAME TWO
After three scoreless innings, the Racers (23-4) took a 2-0 edge over the Bulldogs (4-19) in the top of the fourth after Jessica Twaddler homered to left field, before Maggie Glass knocked an RBI double to center field.
The Bulldogs wasted no time, tying the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, Mason Robinson threw a wild pitch, allowing freshman Nicole Davis (Toms River, N.J.) to score from third. One out later, freshman Nicole Zukowski (Medford, N.Y.) reached on a fielding error by the second baseman and junior Rachel Monroe (Southwick, Mass.) was able to score unearned.
In the top of the fifth, the Racers took a 5-2 lead after Kristen Bialek hit an RBI single through the left side and Cayla Levins placed a two-RBI single in left field.
Murray State put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs to seal the 9-2 victory. The scoring frenzy came off a double, a fielding error, a fielder's choice and when Kaylee Ranburger stole home.
The Racers totaled nine runs off 13 hits, while Bryant scored two runs off two hits. Ranburger went an impressive 3-for-3, while sophomore Jessica Gradillas (Nogales, Ariz.) and Burger earned the Bulldogs' hits.
Robinson recorded her 15th win in the circle, letting up both Bryant's runs and hits, while striking out one batter. Sophomore Brandi Burgin (Santa Clarita, Calif.) moved to 1-5 on the season, allowing five runs off eight hits and three walks in five innings.
The Bulldogs close out their California tour and the LMU Tournament against Weber State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (EST).
