SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) earned her second-career medal to highlight the second day of competition for the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team at the Northeast Conference Championships.
After two days, the Bulldogs move into third place with 190 points. Central Connecticut is in first place with 325 points, while Wagner is in second with 277 points.
A bronze medalist in the 1650 free as a rookie last year, Daly earned another bronze in the 500 free on Thursday. She finished with a time of 5:02.09, seventh one hundredths of a second shy of earning a silver medal.
Bryant also saw two other swimmers compete in the B final. Freshman Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) finished 10th with a time of 5:04.70 and classmate Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) finished 11th with a time of 5:06.28.
The Bulldogs' most impressive event of day two came in the 200 IM as they placed six swimmers in the A and B finals. Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth with a school-record time of 2:05.74. The time was under a second faster than the previous mark she set last year. In the B final, Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) finished 11th, Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.) and Alexandra Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.) tied for 12th, Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) finished 14th and Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) finished 16th.
Three Bryant swimmers earned finals appearances in the 50 free. Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, N.J) finished 12th (24.21), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) finished 13th (24.31) and Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) finished 14th (24.32).
In diving, Allison Yennaco (Londonderry, N.H.) and Kailey Frye (Lakeville, Mass.) finished 8-9 in the 1 meter. Yennaco posted 166.20 points and Frye finished with 151.70 points.
Bryant's 200 free relay team of Valenzuela, Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.), Poliseno and Yu finished fourth with a time of 1:35.61.
Day three of the championships gets underway at 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
