SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) won a pair of events as the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team gave the University of Vermont everything they had before falling 145.5-116.5 on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs, who had never beaten the Catamounts, trailed by just eight points heading into the final two events of the meet on Sunday but were unable to complete the comeback.
One of Bryant's top rookies, Salzano won both back events, claiming the 100 with a time of 59.18 and the 200 with a time of 2:06.79.
Top Performers
Freshman Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) won the 200 free (1:57.75).
Junior Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) won the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.86.
Junior Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) won the 500 free with a time of 5:16.00.
Junior Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 (1:08.62) and 200 (2:27.57) breast.
Junior Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) finished second in the 50 free (25.21) and the 100 fly (59.52).
