Box Score DESPITE LATE INNING PUSH, SOFTBALL FALLS TO FAIRFIELD, 3-1, TUESDAY IN SAN DIEGO
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite another solid effort on the mound from senior Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.), the Bryant University softball team fell to Fairfield, 3-1, Tuesday afternoon in San Diego.
Junior Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and a walk to lead Bryant (2-4), but a pair of first inning runs by the Stags (6-4) proved to be the difference. After allowing the two early runs, Hart was great, posting four scoreless innings, however the Bulldogs were unable to string some hits together until the top of the sixth.
In the top of the sixth, junior Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) smacked a double to left to drive in Guy for the lone Bryant run in the contest. The Stags drove in one more in the bottom of the inning, as Bryant was unable to rally in the seventh.
Sophomore Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) each recorded hits for the Bulldogs.
Bryant will face off with a talented Texas Tech team on Wednesday (12 p.m. EST), before opening the San Diego Classic II on Thursday.
