BRYANT BASEBALL FALLS TO BOSTON COLLEGE 11-3 WEDNESDAY
ENDING SEVEN-GAME WIN STREAK
Bulldogs host Central Connecticut for four-game
Northeast Conference series this weekend starting Friday at 3
pm
BOXSCORE
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – All streaks must come to an
end.
Winners of seven straight, the Bryant University baseball team
entered Wednesday's game at Boston College riding the wave of
solid pitching and timely hitting. The Bulldogs did manage eight
hits against the ACC Eagles, but could scratch across just three
runs in falling 11-3.
With temperatures nearing 90 degrees at Shea Field, the Boston
College (13-15) bats were red-hot as the Eagles scored at least a
run through the first seven innings including two in the third and
four more in the fourth en route to the win.
During its recent win streak, Bryant (10-14) had out-scored its
opponents 66-22 and averaged 13 hits per game. However, the
Bulldogs found themselves trailing early and playing catch-up
throughout the game.
Down 4-0 entering the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs cut the
Eagles lead in half with one swing of the bat. After Colin
Dougherty (Lowell, Mass.) worked a four-pitch walk against
BC pitcher Kyle Prohovich, senior Jeff Vigurs (South
Windsor, Conn.) blasted his second home run of the season
to left field to pull the Bulldogs to within 4-2.
Bryant would later put a pair of runners on but
Tim Norton (Barnstable, Mass.)
flied out to left to end the inning.
Boston College would answer quickly, scoring four runs in the
bottom of the fourth off Bryant starter Sal Lisanti (Bronx,
N.Y.). With runners on the corner, Robbie Anston
drilled a one-out double to get a run back. That would be all
for Lisanti as coach Jamie Pinzino went to the bullpen for
David O'Brien (Whitman, Mass.) to relieve
the Bulldog freshman.
O'Brien would get Matt Hamlet on a strikeout for the
second out of the inning, but would hit the next batter, Mickey
Wiswall to load the bases. A walk to John Spatola would make
it 6-2 and Matt Watson followed with a two-run single to center to
make it 8-2.
Bryant would add a run in the ninth thanks to an RBI single to
the left side by Dougherty.
Zakary Cianciolo (Prospect, Conn.) continued
his hot hitting ways once again as the junior went 3-for-4 at the
plate with two doubles. His three hits moves him into the
team lead with a .328 batting average for the season. Vigurs
finished the day going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Bryant will return home Friday to begin a four-game Northeast
Conference with Central Connecticut. Friday's game
starts at 3 pm at the Bryant Baseball Complex. The Bulldogs and
Blue Devils will play a double-header Saturday starting at noon and
close out the series with a single game Sunday at 1 pm.
