SOFTBALL TAKES GAME TWO IN
EXTRA INNINGS; SPLIT AT RMU SATURDAY
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior tri-captain Ali
Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.) hit the game-winning double in
the top of the eighth inning to score junior Jenna Jeffrey
(Scarborough, Maine) to win game two of the doubleheader
at Robert Morris Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs dropped game one
2-1 to the Colonials.
Bryant (5-28, 2-10) got on the board first in game two of the
series with one run in the top of the second inning. Sophomore
Lindsay Martin (Methuen, Mass.) reached base on a
fielder's choice and junior Regi Burdo (Wayne,
Pa.) followed with a single. Sophomore Laura Bowen
(Hudson, Mass.) singled in the next Bryant at bat to score
Martin to earn her team-high 12th RBI of the season and give the
Bulldogs a 1-0 lead early.
The Bulldogs picked up one run in the top of the fourth and one
in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead after five and a half innings of
play.
Robert Morris (18-14, 8-3 NEC), the third ranked team in the
Northeast Conference, was able to knot things up in the bottom of
the sixth with three runs of their own on three hits.
Jeffrey started on second base to start the eighth for the
Bulldogs and freshman Kelly Cocco (Vernon, Conn.)
moved her to third with a groundout back to the pitcher. With one
out in the top of the eighth, Chouinard followed with what turned
out to be the game-winning double to right field to score Jeffrey.
It was Chouinard's sixth RBI of the season.
Bryant freshman pitcher Brittany Hart (North Andover,
Mass.) came in to close out the game for the Bulldogs in
the bottom of the eighth. Hart retired three consecutive batters to
earn her fourth win of the 2010 campaign. With the win, Hart now
has four of the five Bryant victories.
The Bulldogs were held to just two hits in the first game of the
series as the Colonials defeated BU 2-1.
Robert Morris pitcher Alexa Bryson pitched a complete-game two
hitter, giving up just one walk and striking out nine.
Lischinsky, Martin and Burdo all had two hits in the second game
of action while Bowen was 2-6 with 2 RBIs on the day. Lischinsky
had two doubles in game two.
The Black and Gold continue its western Pennsylvania trip when
they travel to Loretto for a doubleheader matchup with Saint
Francis (Pa.).
