DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Bryant University baseball team dropped a
6-2 decision to Davidson College Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field,
falling to 0-6 to start the 2010 season.
Things looked good early for the Bulldogs who jumped out quickly
in the first inning. Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor,
Conn.) drew a two-out walk off Davidson starter Ryan
Overcash. Freshman Kevin Brown (Northborough,
Mass.) followed by sending an Overcash offering deep for
his first home run of the season and giving the Bulldogs an early
2-0 lead.
Davidson would answer right back in the bottom of the first as
Sam Payne led off the inning with a home run to center off starter
Sal Lisanti (Bronx, NY). Lisanti would
settle down and got out of the inning by striking out the side.
In the fourth, the Wildcats would tie the game as Danny Weiss
led off the bottom of the inning with a homer to left. An
inning later, Davidson would take its first lead of the game as
Tommy Piacencza doubled to left and Payne followed with an RBI
single to score Piacencza to make it 3-.
Bryant would threaten in the sixth as Nick Campbell
(Raynham, Mass.) led off the inning with a single and
Vigurs would follow with a single of his own. But the
Wildcats would get out of the inning unharmed as Brown would pop up
to the pitcher, Jordan English (Windsor Locks,
Conn.) would strikeout and Dan Mello (Peabody,
Mass.) would pop up to the infield to end the inning.
Davidson would put the game away with three runs in the
sixth. Lisanti allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits
while striking out five through 5 2/3 innings of work.
Vigurs and English each had two hits in the game for the Bulldogs
who travel to Virginia Military Institute on Monday for a 4 pm game
before heading to Virginia Tech Tuesday and Wednesday.
