SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Boston College racked up 13 hits
including three home runs en route to an 8-2 win over Bryant
University Wednesday, spoiling the Bulldogs' home opener at
the Bryant Baseball Complex.
The Eagles left a runner at third stranded in the top of the
first but plated two in the second as Robbie Anston laced a two-out
single to center to score Andrew Lawrence and Matt Watson to put
the visitors up 2-0 early.
Bryant would get a run back in the bottom of the third as
Tim Norton (Barnstable, Mass.) homered for the
second time this year, taking BC starter Taylor Lasko deep to right
to make it 2-1.
BC's Matt Hamlet would homer to right in the fifth and the
Eagles would tack on two more runs in the sixth before a homer by
Anthony Melchionda in the seventh, and never looked back.
Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.) had two hits for
Bryant while Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.)
doubled in the third to give him 52 doubles for his career –
two shy of tying the all-time school record of 54 held by former
standout Scott Yankee.
Senior Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) extended
his team-best hitting streak to eight games with a single in
sixth. Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.)
took the loss for the Bulldogs after going six innings allowing
five runs on eight BC hits.
Lasko picked up his first win of the season on the mound for the
Eagles as the sophomore right hander allowed just one run on five
Bryant hits through six innings of work. Designated hitter Andrew
Lawrence had three of Boston College's 13 hits on the
afternoon.
Bryant will travel to Northeastern Friday (3:30 pm) afternoon in
the first of three with the Huskies this weekend. The two
teams will play at Bryant on Saturday (1 pm) and close out the
weekend with a game in Boston Sunday at 1 pm. BC travels to
top-ranked Virginia for a three-game ACC series starting Friday.
