innings and Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) went
three-for-five with three RBI as the Bryant baseball team took a
10-2 win over Brown University on Thursday at Murray Stadium. The
win gave Cobb a career-high seven wins this season, posting a
perfect 7-0 record.
Bryant lost the season series to the Bears, three games to two,
but clinched a winning record in their first Division I season with
the victory as their overall record now stands at 28-21. The team
scored ten runs on nine hits, and was helped out by five Brown
errors on their way to the win.
Both Campbell and Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor,
Conn.) had three hits in the contest to pace the offense.
Vigurs pushed his team-leading batting average to .395 with his
three-for-three performance, putting his hitting streak at
ten-straight games while knocking in his 64th RBI of the
year.
Campbell, who is second on the team with a .358 average, now has
246 career hits, just one back of Jason Eldridge's program record
of 247 with still four games left to play in the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, doing it all
on just one hit. Bryan was helped out by Brown starter Conor Burke,
who hit two guys with the bases loaded to bring in the two runs.
Campbell added on another run in the third, launching his second
home run of the season over the fence in left off of Burke to put
Bryant up 3-0.
Leading 4-1 heading into the top of the sixth, the Bulldogs
rallied for four runs to take a commanding 8-1 advantage.
Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.) got the scoring
started when he came home on a wild pitch. Campbell knocked in his
third RBI of the contest with an RBI single up the middle later in
the inning, and Jordan English (Windsor Locks,
Conn.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the
second time in the game to bring in Bryant's seventh run and his
second RBI. Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) would
drive in Bryant's eighth run with a run-scoring fielder's choice.
Cobb made just two mistakes in the game, allowing home runs in
the fifth and the sixth for Brown's only runs. It was Cobb's second
complete game of the season, as he struck out six and scattered
nine hits in the win.
Bryant finished off the scoring in the seventh, as Scott
Merritt (Norwalk, Conn.) came home on a passed ball after
singling earlier in the inning, and Vigurs drove in a run on a
double to finish up the 10-2 victory.
The Bulldogs will host Wheaton College for Senior Day on
Saturday, as they host the Lyons at the Bryant Baseball Complex at
1 p.m.
