WALLACE GETS WIN NUMBER 200 AS BULLDOGS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AT
CCSU
Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score
WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - The Bryant
softball team swept a doubleheader from Central Connecticut on
Wednesday, winning by finals of 4-0 and 7-3, as head coach
Lisa-Ann Wallace collected her 200th
career win with the program. Wallace, who is the all-time
winningest coach in the history of the program, improved her record
to 201-193-1 with the two wins.
Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy, Pa.) earned the
win on the mound in both games, pitching two complete games
including a one-hitter in game one. Houseal went seven innings
while striking out nine and not walking a single batter in the
Bulldogs', 4-0, victory, while striking out seven more in the
second game to help Bryant to their first two-game sweep.
Lauren McCart (Vorhees, N.J.) got the scoring
started in game one, shooting a double to right center in the top
of the second that brought home Kim Leonard (Milford,
Mass.) to give Bryant a 1-0 lead. McCart went
two-for-three in the game with two RBI.
The Bulldogs (7-23) manufactured another run in the third,
starting with a double by Ali Chouinard (Swansea,
Mass.). Laura Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) moved
Chouinard over with a sacrifice bunt, and Ashley Coon
(Levittown, Pa.) scored her with sacrifice fly to extend
the lead to 2-0.
Another McCart double brought in a run for the third-straight
inning in the fourth, as Bryant's lead grew to, 3-0, after four
innings. Houseal was dominant, taking a perfect game all the way
into the seventh inning. A two-out double was the only base runner
the Blue Devils could manage the entire game against the junior.
Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, Conn.) rounded
out the scoring in game one, singling in the sixth and eventually
coming around to score on a wild pitch to help Bryant to a, 4-0,
win and snap a nine-game losing streak. The single extended the
senior's hitting streak to four games.
Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, N.Y.) carried the
Bulldog offense in game two, going two-for-four with three RBI
including her third home run of the season. Houseal went the full
seven on the hill again, scattering ten hits and not allowing an
earned run.
The Bulldogs were assisted by five Central Connecticut errors in
the contest, including scoring two runs on errors in the first
inning to take an early, 2-0, lead. Dobmeier knocked in one run
with an RBI single, while Chouinard came in to score on a fielding
error.
The Blue Devils cut the deficit to one with a run in the bottom
of the inning, but Bryant grabbed some insurance in the top of the
sixth by tallying three times to take a, 5-1, lead. Lindsay
Martin (Methuen, Mass.) started the rally with a lead-off
single, and came in to score on another RBI double by McCart, her
third double of the day. Chouinard came up with the big hit of the
inning, lacing a two-run double with one down in the inning.
Dobmeier cranked her two run bomb in the top of the seventh,
pushing the Bulldog advantage to, 7-2. The Blue Devils were able to
but a two-spot on the board in the bottom of the inning, but
Houseal was able to get out of a first and third jam to clinch the
win.
Bryant returns back to Smithfield for a pair of games on Sunday,
as the host Quinnipiac in a doubleheader (12 p.m. and 2 p.m.).
