GARCIA & LEWIS GO DEEP, AS BRYANT SPLITS AT UALBANY ON SATURDAY

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Bryant University softball team split on Saturday against UAlbany in New York.
 
Laniya Lewis and Alana Garcia hit home runs, as Maddy Wachter threw her tenth complete game in the 7-2 victory in the first game.
 
The Bulldogs fell 5-3 in game two, on a walk-off two-run home run.

  • The Bulldogs scored five runs in the third inning, after trailing 2-0.
How it Happened (GM1)
  • With two outs in the bottom of the first, UAlbany scored two runs on a Bulldog error and passed ball (2-0).
  • In the top of the third inning, Jady Jenks was hit by a pitch, which led to a two-run home run from Lewis to tie the game (2-2). Gabriella Gesualdo would knock a single, setting up Garcia, who hit a two-run home run to deep center field for her first career home run, giving Bryant the lead (4-2). The Bulldogs scored their fifth run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Jaiden McKenna (5-0).
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Bryce Clendenin reached on a fielder's choice, and Carley Genzer singled, which was followed by a stolen base. McKenna then hit a single to center field, scoring two (7-2).

  • The Great Danes responded with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning (1-1).
  • In the top of the fifth, Arriana Williams hit a single and then stole second, leading to an RBI single for Bryce Clendenin to give Bryant a one-run lead (2-1).
  • Gesualdo hit a leadoff double, advanced to third, and eventually scored on a throw to second base (3-1) in the top of the seventh.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Bryant gave up four runs on a double and a walk-off home run (5-3).
