No. 26 BRYANT FALLS TO ASSUMPTION IN NON-CONFERENCE

SMITHFIELD, RI - Led by a four-hit, four-RBI day from junior
second baseman Mike Baillargeon, Assumption College topped the
Bryant University baseball team, 20-6, Sunday afternoon at the
Bryant Baseball Complex in the Bulldogs' final matchup of the
regular season.
The Greyhounds (20-27) peppered the Bulldogs (38-17) with 31
hits in the affair, scoring in every inning but the sixth and the
ninth.
Assumption came out to a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the
fourth, when the Bulldogs threatened for the first time in the
game, loading the bases with no outs for shortstop Pat
McKenna (Orange, Conn.). The junior tri-captain drew a
five-pitch free pass to walk in the Bulldogs' first run of the day,
Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.).
The Bulldogs would get one more in the inning off a Mark
Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) single to left field, but the
Greyhounds would get it back and then some in the top of the fifth.
The Bulldogs would score one in the fifth and another three in
the sixth before being shut out the final three frames.
Assumption exploded for seven runs in the half-inning,
highlighted by a string of seven-straight hits. The Greyhounds
scored one more in the seventh and five in the eighth to complete
their 20-6 defeat of the Bulldogs, who claimed the Northeast-10
Conference regular-season title with a pair of Saturday afternoon
wins over Pace University.
Bryant used seven pitchers in Sunday's loss, with starter
Dan Lozeau (Pelham, NH) taking the loss to move to
5-3 on the year. Zachary Jacques earned the win to up his record to
2-1.
Offensively, four Greyhounds recorded four-hit games, while
Derek Migrants turned in a 5-for-7 performance with two RBI and two
runs scored. Baillargeon and Mike DiReda each chipped in four RBI
while Baillargeon, Shawn Frigon and Chris DeSimone all crossed the
plate three times.
For the Bulldogs, Campbell went 3-for-4 with and RBI and two
runs scored while four Bulldogs recorded a pair of hits in the
contest.
Bryant next takes the field in the Northeast-10 Conference
Tournament, where they enter as the No. 1 seed and will take the
field at Franklin Pierce on May 9.
