Lozeau Takes No-Hitter into the Ninth in 9-0 Win over
Merrimack
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Bryant
pitcher Dan Lozeau (Pelham, NH) took a no-hitter
into the ninth inning and settled for the complete-game two-hit
shutout as the Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak,
defeating Merrimack College 9-0.
Lozeau (5-1) struck out five, while walking just one, getting
his second complete game of the season. Through eight innings, the
sophomore right-hander allowed just two walks and saw three other
batters reach base via errors. 2B Brendan Pyburn led off the ninth
with a single to breakup the no-hitter.
Lozeau was tested in the sixth when the first two runners
reached base on an error and a walk, but he got Mike Chandler to
ground into the 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
The game was scoreless until the sixth when 1B Mike
Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.) launched a sacrifice fly to score
RF Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.). DH Jeff Vigurs (South
Windsor, CT) then doubled to right-center, bringing home
CF Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.), and LF
T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.) followed with a two-out
single that scored Vigurs.
The Bulldogs gave Lozeau plenty of insurance, scoring six times
in the eighth inning. 2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton,
Mass.) had his third single of the game that plated two
runners. SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) then rocketed
a triple of the right-center field wall to bring Muscatello home.
Muscatello finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, while
Vigurs and C Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) each had
two hits. Alexander extended his hitting streak to 13 games in the
victory.
The Bulldogs, currently ranked third in the Northeast region,
(24-16, 17-7 NE-10) will visit Merrimack Thursday (3:30 p.m.)
