Caldwell hits their way past Bryant 8-3;
Bentley rallies in ninth to win 2-1

RI - The Bryant University
baseball team
welcomed Caldwell College of the CACC, and
Northeast-10 opponent Bentley College to the Bryant
Baseball Complex for a double-header. The Cougars won the first
game 8-3 out hitting the Bulldogs 13-4 and improve their record to
5-9. Bentley rallied in the ninth inning to take the 2-1 come from
behind victory over the Bulldogs. Bentley improves their overall
record to 5-8 and Northeast-10 record to 2-3 while Bryant drops to
4-18 overall and 2-1 in conference play.Caldwell got on the board
first in the top of the first inning with three singles. Bryant
struck right back with a run of their own without the benefit of a
hit. The game would stay close until the Cougars struck for a run
in the seventh and two more in the eighth including a homerun by
Efrain Velazquez (Brick, NJ).
Junior Billy Ryan
(TomsRiver,
NJ) led the Cougar attack
going 5-5 at the dish with two runs and two
RBI's.Junior Mike Rocco
(Tewksbury,
MA)
drove in two
of the three runs for Bryant. Senior Daryle Crowley
(Danvers,
MA)
went 1-3 and
scored two runs.Game two of the
double-header featured some spectacular defense and great pitching.
Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning
when freshman Pat McKenna (Orange,
CT)
tripled into
the leftfield corner with two outs. Senior Paul Novakowski
(Prospect, CT) hit a dribbler to third base and beat the
throw to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Bentley would battle back
in the top of the ninth responding with back-to-back singles and a
fielder's choice by Steve Mejia

Park,
MA)
that drove in
the winning run. They would score two runs in the inning and hold
in the bottom of the ninth for the 2-1 victory. Senior Jake
Perkins (East
Bridgewater,
MA)
went the
distance for the Falcons allowing nine hits and one earned
run.
The
next home game for Bryant is on Tuesday, March 28 when they will
host Southern New
Hampshire at 3:00 pm.
