Key Moment
  • Hilburger pitched around doubles in both the seventh and the eighth to close out his outing.
How it Happened
  • The two teams traded five runs in the first two innings. Bryant struck first as Wensley reached on an error and eventually came around to score on a Hunter Kingsbury ground ball in the infield.
  • UML answered as a leadoff walk came around to score on a Cal Chance single to left.
  • Bryant took a 5-1 lead with four runs in the top of the second. Mike Fiatarone scored the first run with a drive over the left fielder's head, while Wensley made it 3-1 with a ground ball through the right side. Garcia capped the inning with a two-run triple into the right center gap.
  • The River Hawks, however, answered with four runs of their own. Three singles loaded the bases with one out and Zach Scott followed with a ground ball down the first base line that scooted into the right field corner for a three-run triple. Chance then grounded out to tie the game at 5-5.
  • Hilburger rebounded to retire the next 12 batters in a row before a two-out single in the sixth. The River Hawks then got a leadoff double in the seventh and a one-out double in the eighth but were unable to advance the runner. Hilburger retired 19-of-22 to end his outing.
  • Bryant retook the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, Wensley walked and Garcia moved him to third with a bloop single to right with two outs. Garcia then took off for second on an 0-2 pitch and got caught in a rundown, allowing Wensley to score on the backend.
  • In the fifth, Charlie Saul reached on an infield single and eventually scored as Cam Papetti drilled a two-out double off the left field wall (7-5).
  • The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the ninth as Garcia scored Fiatarone with a sac fly. A throwing error on a sac bunt attempt setup the run.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Justin Hackett fielded a ground ball up the middle to start a game-ending 6-3 double play.
