VESTAL, N.Y. – The Bryant baseball team jumped out to a 6-1 lead but a seven-run fifth inning lifted Binghamton to a 13-9 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Bearcats Baseball Stadium.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 19-17 overall and 7-7 in the America East. The Bulldogs are 1-5 in America East road games and have lost both road series. Bryant and Binghamton wrap up the series with game three this afternoon.
In game one, Bryant hit three home runs in the first two innings to take a 6-1 lead. Binghamton, however, chipped away and eventually broke through, scoring seven times in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Anderson tied the game with a two-run single, Braylen Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded two-out walk to give the Bearcats the lead and Sean Sweeney provided the big blow with a grand slam.

How it Happened
- Bryant struck first again on Saturday thanks to a long ball from Saul. Wensley walked and Kingsbury singled before Saul launched a three-run home run to deep left.
- Binghamton responded with a solo home run from Matt Bolton in the bottom of the first.
- The Black and Gold answered with three two-out runs on the strength of two home runs in the second. Hackett started the rally with a home run over the scoreboard in left center. Wensley followed with a double off the right field wall and Garcia made it 6-1 as he swatted a two-run home run to left after fouling off three-straight 3-2 pitches.
- Binghamton got three back in the bottom of the inning as Mike Stellrecht hit an opposite field three-run home run.
- Gonzalez made it 6-5 with a two-out home run in the fourth.
- Bryant extended its lead to 7-5 in the top of the fifth as Saul doubled home Kingsbury with two outs.
- Binghamton, however, scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. A single and a walk opened the inning before a sac bunt advanced the runners. Anderson then singled to center to tie the game at 7-7. After a HBP, Bryant had the chance to get an out but Wensley's throw to second hit the runner and loaded the bases. Zaslaw rebounded with a strikeout but a walked Gonzalez on a 3-2 pitch and then Sweeney hit a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam.
- Hackett got two back for the Bulldogs in the top of the sixth as he hit his second home run of the game.
- Tommy Popoff's second home run of the series concluded the scoring in the sixth.
