SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Five different players finished with multiple hits and
Charlie Saul stole a single-game record four bases but the Bryant baseball team came up short on Tuesday, falling to in-state rival URI, 10-9, at Conaty Park.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 19-15 overall and 12-5 at home this season. Bryant begins a stretch of nine-straight America East games on the road this weekend as it heads to Vestal
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs trailed for the majority of the game before taking a brief 7-6 lead in the sixth on
Ellis Garcia's team-leading eighth home run of the season. URI, however, scored twice in the seventh and eighth and stranded the tying run at third in the ninth.
Saul finished the day with two hits, three runs scored and four of Bryant's nine stolen bases. Garcia (2-3, HR, 2RBI, 2R),
Gavin Greger (2-5),
Carlos Irizarry (2-5) and
Mike Fiatarone (2-4) all added two hits, while
Justin Hackett and
Casey Wensley each stole two bases.

- Bryant loaded the bases with no outs against Johnston in the 8th but the right-hander induced a double play and got a ground out to limit Bryant to one run and keep the Rams ahead.
How it Happened
- URI got on the board first as King doubled down the third base line and scored on a two-out dribbler from Hopko that got by the Bryant pitcher.
- The Bulldogs quickly tied the game as Charlie Saul was HBP, stole second and third and scored on a sac fly from Hunter Kingsbury.
- The Rams retook the lead with three runs in the top of the second. Leikus made it 3-1 with a long two-run home run to left and Reese Moroney made it 4-1 with a two-out single to left.
- Bryant was able to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the third. Saul singled, stole second, took third on balk and scored on a Kingsbury ground out. Garcia restarted the inning with a single to left, moved to third on a Gavin Greger single and scored on an Irizarry single. The Black and Gold tied the game at 4-4 on another balk.
- URI answered in the top of the fourth as Medina walked, stole second and scored as King snuck a two-out single through the left side.
- Bryant tied the game on an RBI double down the right field line from Fiatarone in the bottom of the fifth.
- URI took the lead in the top of the sixth on a two-out single to center from King.
- The Black and Gold grabbed its first lead of the afternoon as Garcia clobbered a two-run home run to left center to make it 7-6 in the sixth.
- The lead was short lived as URI retook the lead on a two-run home run Thompson in the top of the seventh.
- Bryant took advantage of URI miscues to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Brandyn Durand walked with two outs, took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third as the throw went into center. Durand then scored as the Rams attempted to pick him off at third but threw it away.
- The Rams retook the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth. A walk and a hit opened the eighth for the Rams but Greg Gorman and Bradley Lewis combined to strikeout Moroney and Hopko for the first two outs. Lewis, however, hit Toro on a 2-2 pitch and Thompson followed with a two-run double to right.
- Bryant quickly rallied, loading the bases with no outs in the eighth on a Hudson Story double, walk and Greger bunt single. The Rams, however, got a 6-4-3 double play and a ground out to limit the Bulldogs to just one run.
- In the ninth, Wensley singled to center with two outs and took second as the ball was bobbled. Wensley then stole third but was stranded with a strikeout.
