BRYANT COMPLETES SWEEP WITH WILD 14-11 WIN ON SATURDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Hudson Story and Mike Fiatarone combined to drive in seven runs as the Bryant baseball team completed the weekend sweep of Sacred Heart with a wild 14-11 victory in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Conaty Park.
 
With the win, the Bulldogs have won seven-straight games, improve to 13-8 overall and finish their nine-game homestand with an 8-1 record. Bryant faces in-state rival Rhode Island on Wednesday in Kingston.
 
Bryant led 4-0 after two but trailed 5-4 and 6-5 before scoring the next nine runs to build a 12-6 lead. Fiatarone's two-run single and Story's two-run home run in the fourth put Bryant ahead for good.

Story finished with three hits and four RBI, while Fiatarone drove in three, scored twice and walked twice. Casey Wensley and Ellis Garcia each scored three times, with Wensley stealing three bases.
 
Aidan Vining was strong in relief to earn his third win of the year, limiting the Pioneers to one run over 3.2 innings. He struck out five.

  • Fiatarone and Story powered a four-run fourth inning as the Bulldogs retook the lead for good.
How it Happened
  • Bryant scored three runs in the first with just one hit. Two walks and a single loaded the bases and Fiatarone and Story both earned RBI walks. Hackett scored the third run with a ground out.
  • The Bulldogs added a run in the second as Wensley doubled and scored on a sac fly from Kingsbury.
  • Sacred Heart erased the deficit and took the lead with a five-run third. Ryan Rey got SHU on the board with an RBI single and Will Rudolph scored two with a single. The Pioneers took the lead as Daniel Rice beat out a ground ball to first, allowing two runs to score.
  • Bryant tied the game at 5-5 in the third as Story singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single from Gaudreau.
  • SHU retook the lead in the fourth on a sac fly to center.
  • Bryant answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. With runners on second and third, Fiatarone laced a two-run single to center to make it 7-6. Story followed with a laser down the right field line for a two-run home run and a 9-6 lead.
  • The Bulldogs added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the fifth, Garcia's high fly ball to right was lost in the sun and fell for a triple, scoring Wensley from first. Kingsbury followed with a sac fly to make it 11-6.
  • Irizarry made it 12-6 in the sixth as he drove in a run with a fielder's choice.
  • The Pioneers made things interesting with five runs in the top of the seventh. CJ Nolan and Ryan Rey delivered two-run doubles in the inning.
  • Bryant answered with two runs of its own as Story drove in a run with a single through the right side and Hackett brought in a run with a sac fly.
