SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University track and field programs have renamed their outdoor home meet to be called the
Jaylin Rainford Invitational.
Rainford, a native of Randolph, Mass., was a junior member of the Bryant track and field program before tragically passing away in a car accident along with classmate Chiemelie Okonkwo in January of 2026.
"Jaylin had an incredible impact on our program and community," said head coach
Mitchell Switzer, "The
Jaylin Rainford Invitational is a meet that will continue to carry his memory on every year. The meet is a cornerstone of our schedule each season and I don't know a better way to honor his legacy than naming a meet in which hundreds of Track and Field athletes step foot onto campus each year and compete. His love, impact and memory will be felt for years to come."Â Â Â
The
Jaylin Rainford Invitational is scheduled for Friday, March 27-28. The Rainford Invitational is one of two home meets for the Black and Gold this season, as Bryant is also set to host the annual Ocean State Cup the following weekend.
"The Rainford Family would like to express a huge heartfelt thank you to the entire Bryant University Community," Rainford's parents said. "We are deeply honored, what a lovely way to commemorate Jaylin. He loved being on Bryant's Track and Field Team and a member of the Bryant University Community."
Bryant will begin its outdoor campaign on Friday, March 20 with a trip to Charleston, S.C., for the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern University.
