SMITHFIELD, R.I. –
Brandyn Durand had two hits, drove in two and stole three bases and
Ty Davis tossed four scoreless in his first collegiate start as the Bryant baseball team defeated Stonehill, 9-1, on Opening Day at Conaty Park.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-7 on the year. Bryant begins America East play this weekend, facing defending champion Binghamton.
Making his first collegiate start, Davis limited Stonehill to just hit, walked two and struck out two to earn his second win of the year.
Tommy Flaherty (2.0 IP, 1UE),
Thomas Galusha (1.0, 0R),
Zach Davis (1.0 IP, 0R, 2K) and
Bradley Lewis (1.0 IP, 0R) combined to close it out from there.
Durand led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
Charlie Saul homered and
Ellis Garcia finished with two hits and two RBI.

- Durand and Irizarry provided Bryant some breathing room in the sixth with back-to-back run-scoring hits.
How it Happened
- Bryant broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third. Durand produced the first run all by himself as he singled, stole second, stole third and then stole home. Saul made it 3-0 with a punishing two-run home run to left field.
- The Bulldog defense helped keep Stonehill off the board, turning an inning-ending 3-6-1 double play to end a Skyhawk rally in the fourth.
- Stonehill made it 3-1 in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to center.
- Bryant answered with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Garcia opened the inning with a triple down the right field line and two walks loaded the bases. Durand then drilled a 1-2 pitch into the left field corner for a two-run double and Irizarry followed with a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-1.
- The Bulldogs closed the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eight. Hudson Story scored on a dropped throw to second, while Casey Wensley scored Irizarry with a ground out.
