PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College outscored the Bryant University men's lacrosse team 9-5 in the second half to earn a 16-11 win on a snowy day at Anderson Stadium.
The loss is Bryant's second-straight season opening loss at the hands of the Friars. Bryant returns to Beirne for the 2026 home opener against Merrimack on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Sophomore
Zac Amend led the Bulldogs with four points (3g, 1a) while
Dawson Rielly (1g, 2a) posted a three-point afternoon.
John Tomsheck and
Owen West each netted two goals on the day.
How It Happened:
- Dawson Rielly ripped a nifty pass to Zac Amend for the first goal of the season.
- Providence would score the next before Owen West drove through defenders, calling his own number for the goal.
- Bryant forced Providence's goalie to be active early, recording seven shots on goal in the first quarter.
- Zac Amend worked in the wing against Dean Metzger and fired behind his back for his second goal of the game with just four seconds left in the first quarter.
- Providence regained the lead with three-straight goals in the second quarter.
- John Tomsheck and Dawson Rielly attacked from the right wing to give Bryant the lead back (6-5) with 2:25 left in the half.
- The Friars knotted up the game at six-a-piece with a goal with 1:01 left in the first half. Providence kept the momentum rolling into the second half with a goal 35 seconds later.
- Bryant came out of the break quick, taking the lead back with two goals in the first two minutes. After scoring the equalizer, Amend dished the ball to Richie Reid for the go-ahead goal at the start of the third quarter.
- The Friars responded with the next six goals, scoring all six in a five-minute span, to take a 13-8 edge.
- Walsh and West would respond with man-up goals as the Bulldogs cut the deficit to three heading into the fourth quarter.
- Providence potted the first two of the fourth before Nick Pisano's first-career goal made it 15-11.
- Bryant, however, would get no closer.

- Providence held a slight advantage in shots, 39-38.
- Providence held a similar advantage in shots on goal, 28-27.
- The Bulldogs went 14-of-17 on clears and collected 29 ground balls.
- The Bulldogs caused eight turnovers.
- Amend led Bryant with four points (3g, 1a), netting his first hat trick of the season.
- Rielly finished with three points (1g, 2a).
- Walsh (1g, 1a), Tomsheck (2g), West (2g) and Elmaleh (2a) all recorded multi-point afternoons.
- JJ Murphy finished 13-of-23 on faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.
- Luke Krebs and Sam Klein each caused two turnovers.
Game Notes:
- Bryant falls to 10-6 all-time vs Providence. It is the first time since 2017-2018 that the Friars have won back-to-back games against Bryant.
- James Carr recorded 12 saves in his first career start for the Black and Gold, eight of which coming in the first half.
- Richie Reid scored the first goal of his Bulldog career.
- Nick Pisano scored the first goal of his Bulldog career.
