BULLDOGS FALL TO UMBC THURSDAY NIGHT IN BALTIMORE

BALTIMORE – The Bryant men's basketball team grabbed a brief second-half lead but first place UMBC outscored Bryant 30-17 the rest of the way to earn a 70-58 victory on Thursday night at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
 
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 8-20 overall and 4-10 in league play. Bryant and UMBC split the season series. The Bulldogs are tied with UNH for the final two playoff spots but Binghamton is just one game back after defeating the Wildcats on Thursday night. Bryant will host NJIT on Senior Day Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
 
A pullup three from Aaron Davis III and an offensive putback from Ashley Sims II gave Bryant a 41-40 lead with 16:18 left to play. A driving layup from Timofei Rudovskii knotted the game at 43-43 with 14:10 left but back-to-back threes from the Retrievers started a decisive 17-7 run.
 
Harvey led all scorers with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from three. Rudovskii added 14 points and six rebounds and Davis finished with nine points.

How it Happened
  • Early threes from Khalil Williams and Rudovskii tied the game at 10-10.
  • Four straight points from Josh Odunwo pushed UMBC's lead to eight, 26-18, with 7:13 left in the opening half.
  • UMBC's lead remained at eight until Harvey and Jakai Robinson hit back-to-back threes (28-30).
  • The teams would then trade late free throws as the Retrievers took a 36-30 lead to the break.
  • Bryant grabbed its only lead of the night as it opened the second half on an 11-4 run.
