DEFILIPPO, CAITO LIFT BRYANT PAST BROWN, 2-1, ON SUNDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I.  – Maddy DeFilippo and Callie Caito each finished with a goal and an assist to lift the Bryant field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Brown on Sunday afternoon at Cowen Field.

With it's first victory over Brown since 2017, the Bulldogs improve to 6-4 overall. Bryant will head to UAlbany on for an America East contest.

On Sunday, Bryant found itself tied 1-1 before a defensive stop led to the game-winning goal. Valentina Funes fired a pass upfield that was tipped on to Elyse Bouchard. Bouchard would find Callie Caito who passed on to DeFilippo. DeFilippo then powered one through the keeper for the decisive score.

Key Moment
  • Moments after DeFilippo gave Bryant the lead, Maud van Lierop made back-to-back saves to keep the Bulldogs on top.
First Quarter
  • Brown grabbed a pair penalty corners but was unable to capitalize.
Second Quarter
  • Bryant struck first as they turned a successful DPC into a transition. Maddy DeFilippo raced down a long ball and then air dribbled into the circle before finding Caito. Caito quickly snapped the shot home to make it 1-0.
  • The Bears were able to tie the game as Mia Karine Myklebust carried to the right and flipped a pass to the middle for Grace Almeida to knock home.
Third Quarter
  • Bryant generated six consecutive offensive opportunities off the same APC but was unable to breakthrough.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Bulldogs finally broke the deadlock late as DeFilippo finished off an impressive build up for her fourth goal of the season. The Brown goalie came out to challenge but DeFilippo was able to power it through her.
  • Brown quickly responded with an offensive attack but van Lierop denied consecutive attempts from Kiersten Smith on the doorstep.
Bryant Notes and Notables
  • Bryant snapped a six-game losing streak to Brown, beating the Bears for the first time since 2017. The Bulldogs are now 5-11 all-time vs Brown.
  • van Lierop made a season-high 11 saves in the contest.
  • DeFilippo and Caito each finished with a goal and an assist for the Black and Gold.
  • DeFilippo now has four goals and 10 points on the year.
  • Caito's goal was her sixth of the season and she now has 13 points on the year. Caito now has 16 goals and 38 points in her career. She ranks seventh in DI program history in points and is tied with Elise Boissoneau for 6th in goals.
