SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Timofei Rudovskii poured in a career-high 22, Ashley Sims added a career-high 16 and Keegan Harvey posted his first-career double-double as the Bryant men's basketball team erased an eight-point second half deficit and came away with a thrilling 79-74 overtime win over UMBC on Thursday night at the Chace Athletic Center.

Bryant led by seven at the break but UMBC opened the second half 8-of-12 (4-5 3pFG) from the field to grab an eight-point edge with 9:45 to go. The Bulldogs answered the bell, holding UMBC to just 3-of-9 shooting down the stretch, tying the game on a Rudovskii layup with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

How it Happened
  • Tabales had a hand in each of Bryant's first two baskets of the night, driving to the basket for two before finding Rudovskii for a wing three.
  • UMBC grabbed a brief 9-7 lead but the Black and Gold answered with a 7-2 run to take a 14-11 lead at the 10:52 mark. Rudovskii slithered his way to the basket for two before Sims finished around his defender at the rim.
  • Bryant would push its lead to seven, 21-14, at the 8:04 mark. Gio Sanford drove the baseline before finding Robinson in the lane for a dunk. Rudovskii followed with a triple from the wing.
  • Rudovskii's third triple of the game made it a 24-19 lead in favor of the Black and Gold.
  • UMBC would get the next five, tying the game at 24-24 with 4:15 to go.
  • Bryant would answer with one of its best closes to a half on the season, outscoring UMBC 9-2 to take a 33-26 lead to the locker room. Davis started the run with a patented drive-and-bank and Rudovskii followed by getting his defender in the air before knocking down his fourth triple of the half.
  • Sims closed out the half for Bryant, scoring inside off a pass from Rudovskii before racing to the rack in transition to make it 33-26 at the break.
  • Davis would hit from three to give Bryant a 40-34 lead but the Retrievers would hit back-to-back threes to start an 8-0 run that gave UMBC a 42-40 lead with 13:52 left. It would be the start of a bigger 15-4 run for the Retrievers.
  • UMBC opened the second half 8-of-12 (4-5 3pFG) after going just 8-of-24 (4-14 3pFG) in the opening 20 minutes. The start gave UMBC a 48-44 lead with 11:02 left.

  • Rudovskii then took over, hitting a three as the shot clock expired and then drilled a contested three from the right wing to make it 53-58.
  • Tabales followed with a scurry to the basket for two and Davis canned two free throws after battling for an offensive rebound (57-58).
  • Tabales then stole an errant pass on the next UMBC possession and raced up the court. He pulled up from three but it was a rouse and he fired the ball to Sims running the floor to give the Bulldogs the lead.
  • From there, the two teams engaged in quite the affair over the final 6:30.
  • Two free throws gave UMBC the lead back before Tabales fired a fastball inside to Sims for two and the Bryant lead. Harvey would follow inside to make it 63-60.

  • Rudovskii had an answer, spinning to his right and driving to the rack for a lefty layup with 31 seconds left to tie the game.
  • UMBC put the ball in the hands of Armstrong, who has already made three late baskets to win games this year, but he was unable to get a shot off before the shot clock expired.
  • In overtime, Harvey scored Bryant's first four points, completing his double-double with a hard drive and finish at the rim.
  • On the next UMBC possession, Tabales intercepted a skip pass and fed Davis who raced down the floor and threw it down with his right hand before letting out a thunderous roar.
