BULLDOGS FALL TO MARIST, 82-74, SATURDAY AT THE CHACE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Justin Menard scored 23 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as Marist handed the Bryant men's basketball team its first home loss of the season, 82-74, Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.
 
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-9 on the year. Bryant will have eight days off before facing High Point on December 22 in North Carolina.
 
On Saturday, Menard went 5-of-7 from three in the second half to lead a Marist squad that went 16-of-30 from the field and 6-of-9 from three in the final 20 minutes. Menard's shooting was enough to dispatch a Bryant side that shot 50 percent from the field.
 
Timofei Rudovskii led five players in double figures with 17 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Quincy Allen posted 12 points, five rebounds and five steals, Aaron Davis III and Ashley Sims II each finished with 11 and Ty Tabales added 10.

  • Marist closed the first half on an 18-5 run to erase a five-point Bryant lead.
How it Happened
  • In a reversal of its previous starts, Bryant came out of the gate strong on Saturday. The Bulldogs made 3-of-4 in the first four minutes of the game.
  • Marist, however, also started hot, making 5-of-9 to start to grab a 10-8 lead at the 14:00 mark.
  • Meanwhile, Bryant would miss its next five shots as it went scoreless for over four minutes.
  • Allen would end the skid with a driving layup at the 12:16 mark, Bryant's field goal in over five minutes of game play.
  • The basket would provide a spark and ignite a 15-6 run that gave the Bulldogs a 23-18 lead at the under-8 media. Rudovskii followed with Bryant's first triple of the afternoon, opening the door for threes from Keegan Harvey and Ashley Sims II.
  • Bryant went 6-of-6 from the field (3-of-3 from three) during the 4:00 minute stretch.
  • Marist would answer with a pair of 8-0 runs as part of an 18-5 finish over the final 7:25 of the half.
  • The Red Foxes then closed the half with an 8-0 run, holding Bryant scoreless over the final 3:21, to take a 36-28 lead to the break.
  • Bryant would cut the deficit to five to start the second half but a Mennard three highlighted a 9-0 run to give the Red Foxes a 47-33 lead with 15:54 left.
  • The Marist lead would reach 15 at one point before a Rudovskii corner three brought Bryant within 10, 57-67, with 7:46 left.
  • Late threes from Davis and Tabales made things interesting but the Red Foxes were able to close it out from the line.

  • Bryant finished the game 26-of-52 (50.0 percent) from the field, 11-of-31 (35.5 percent) from three and 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from the line.
  • Marist held a 31-24 edge in rebounding and a 36-24 edge in paint scoring.
  • The Red Foxes went 6-of-9 from three in the second half after going 0-of-7 in the first 20 minutes.
  • Bryant shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the field in the second half.
